dropping tranny, new clutch and flywheel

Since I probably have to drop the tranny and get it fixed (shifts straight from 5th to reverse, lots of play in shifter) I might as well be upgrading my clutch and maybe flywheel too. Should I go for an ACT with light(er) flywheel or any other ideas..?
rather not a puck-style clutch btw

thnx

Ben 05-15-2007 08:57 AM

Lots of clutch threads on here. I am very pleased with my ACT HD with lightened stock flywheel.

hustler 05-15-2007 09:07 AM

I've driven a car with a light flywheel. You're better off getting a 1.6 clutch if you want faster spin up...but its negligible.

how much will an ACT HD hold? and how heavy is your flywheel now?

Braineack 05-15-2007 11:06 AM

i took my ACT HD to 180rwtq...probably wouldn't take much more....

magnamx-5 05-15-2007 11:07 AM

get a XD if you plan to make big power trust me you will be thankfull you did.

Oscar 05-15-2007 11:12 AM

is the XD still streetable? as in no on-off engagement of clutch and sprung disc?

Braineack 05-15-2007 11:16 AM

yes...the XT kits just have a heavier PP but the same disc...it's what I'd go with if I'd buy a new one. should hold 270TQ. Engagment will be the same, just gotta get used to a heavier pedal...however, imho I like a heavier pedal.

Oscar 05-15-2007 11:17 AM

thank you, I'll look into it. Probably crazy priced over here..

Oscar 05-15-2007 02:29 PM

this the right one? (www.carolinaclutch.com)
Item: 101382
Mazda ACT Performance Clutch Kit
Mazda Miata 94-05 Extreme Sprung Hub Race Kit
ACT Extreme Sprung Hub 4 Puck Race Kit

what's the difference between a 4 and 6 puck btw?

Braineack 05-15-2007 02:40 PM

4 more engage ever so harsher than 6....

you want part ZM2-XTSS rated at 307TQ.

Oscar 05-15-2007 03:05 PM

how's that going to help if they don't have the clutch I want..?:td:

Braineack 05-15-2007 06:22 PM

i dunno...they are a BEGi dealer.....BEGi sells ACT....maybe they can work something out?

Oscar 05-15-2007 06:28 PM

I could try that, maybe get a mani, dp and clutch all at the same time, would be best shipping/tax wise. the wallet probably won't allow it tho..:td:

Braineack 05-15-2007 06:29 PM

xcsx 05-15-2007 06:37 PM

Ben 05-15-2007 07:15 PM

Oscar, I have a like new 1.6 size ACT HD & Fidanza 7.5 lb flywheel in the classifieds. Check it out, and send me a PM if you're interested. Only actual shipping charges, too.

I have the 1.8 HD on my car with a 15 lb lightened stock 'wheel. It should hold everything my greddy can throw at it.

Since when does CarolinaClutch not do free shipping? I got my ACT HD/6puck out to the west coast for $376. No tax, no shipping.

Kelly 05-16-2007 12:59 AM

Free international shipping is pretty rare.

no problem, pm me if you were serious:ugh2:

Oscar 05-16-2007 02:35 PM

by the way, should I get the tranny rebuilt? since they're taking it apart anyway, might as well replace syncro's and stuff if possible.. and offcourse oil seals

jwarriner 05-16-2007 07:14 PM

I can get smoked guoda at the grocery store.

Oscar 05-23-2007 07:56 AM

I can get an ACT prolite flywheel for a decent price, worth it? and who has heard of the LSD Motorsports 6 puck clutch kit? torque rating is 298 ft/lbs... could get that aswell in a good deal local, wich saves me shipping and taxes from the US...
