e36 M3 for cheap... Should I?

Long story short I had an agreement with my roommate from college that if he were to sell his 97 M3 then I'd be the first buyer and I can buy it for 3k.

I am looking to finally get to the track once the snow clears and I have two choices:

1. Fix all the stuff I half assed with my Miata (which is a lot)
2. Part-out the Miata turn this M3 into the track toy

I am attached to my miata but it's a bit of a piece of shit atm and I kinda do not want to pass on an e36 for that low. Any input from people that's driven both at the track? or any that has driven against?

They're just like a Miata when you replace the suspension bushings. Except instead of doing it with as an option, it'll be a requirement. And they're not cheap, and some bushings and bearings require replacement of the arms.

Then there's the various oil leaks (valve cover, filter stand, etc) and cooling parts (rad, pump, all plastic). And we haven't gotten to any track prep, interior work, tires, brakes, etc. it gets expensive. And a $3k e36 will need it all.

For the love of god pay for a PPI whatever you do.
