Ebay coilovers..
 

Hey guys, im looking for a budget set of coilovers that are at least better than stock for now, and since my stockers are definitely going out (stock shocks with lowering springs) im looking at the ebay variety...

Does anyone have ANY experience at all with them? Im looking to at least get better performance than my stockers and ill most likely upgrade the springs in the future..

Thanks a ton, and i guess if noone has tried them out yet i might just have to be the test dummy..

Edit: Im not just looking at the ebay sets, i mainly just want the best suspension setup i can get on an EXTREME budget.

m.net has a few threads on them with alot of people saying the sleeves are good but the spring might sag after awhile or something. Check it out.

Buy them up for the sleeves then pick up some QA1 springs from Summit for $45/spring. Then run them on some used Bilsteins.

I'm going with the full Fatcat setup but considered the ebay stuff.

I ran a set of fleabay coilovers and AGX shocks for a while. They kinda sucked, but a lot of that has to do with the fact the AGX shocks kinda suck with really stiff springs. Overall, though, you'd be better off spending money on FCM components.

How often do you really need to adjust your ride height anyway?

i got some of the bomz ones, wont be able to comment on how they ride for a while but ive seen exactly what fmowry said, people buy em for the perches and get the qa1 springs from summit.

Thing is when i got mine fat cat werent doing sleeves, and i would much preffer theirs as their design doesnt have any difference in diameter and uses the stock circlip groove? for support where as the ebay ones you have to keep the stock spring perch (about 10mm of adjustment in height gone, and slip a bicycle tube over the shock body to stop it from knocking around.

Ohh and ill bet FCM sends out the proper set screws with their sleeves lol:gay: (if they even use them?)

Used bilstens = $200
Ebay coil overs = $40
FCM 54mm bupstops = $52
Thats under 300 (+shipping) for a decent spring shock setup. I would save up a little longer for the FCM upper mounts and bumpstop combo ($259, neting a total of around $500 + shipping for the setup).

after that find a set of used sways ($100-175) and possibly NB endlinks? and your done

I've seena few people with good results with the right ones....something like 400/300 lbs. spring rates.

I wouldn't get them. I bought a set and the sleeves started cracking, Ill try to post up some pics tonight.

Mine are a little over a year old with no issues. I kept the threaded collars and used eibach springs. Just had things off this weekend an no issues other than one of the collars had a little rubbing on a couple of threads. They still adjusted. I agree it's not something you set often, so if they wind up seized in place thats okay with me.

Depending on what kind of shocks you have, that 10mm of adjustment you loose using the "stock" spring perches can be regained by turning the mount over. It works on Koni's. Just be careful it you do that on the rears. The lowest position on the Koni's will put the spring perch against the axle if you flip it.

I've had mine on for about 18 months with no quality issues. They're pretty stiff (450/350) but work fine for me.

Basically what happened was that the sleeves cracked and then expanded and fell off of the little flange that they mount onto the shock with. They then slid down to the bottom of the shock. Ill see if I can crawl under my car and get some good pics here in a little while.

if its the lip im thinking of, thats the same as the one on my bilsteins, to be fair thats not really the sleeves fault, they are too loose around that small lip and will eventually get cracked and slide over the lip because of the downward force exerted on it, you needed to keep the spring perch on.:cool:

:werd: That's exactly what I found. For some reason they fit perfect on the front bilsteins, and were loose on the rear. So I used the stock bilstein perch on the rear for the sleeve to sit on. But will eventually machine down a proper sized ring.
