No one here has used. It has been discussed though. I would like to see someone try though.

Very little improvement likely.

I was thinking internally

My bad..

Yeah it's quite a bit larger, but flow wise, from the inside they look extremely similar.

looks nothing like stock on the inside. That manifold has a HUGE plenum, velocity stacks and short runners.

the OEM has a very small plenum, odd holes that aren't in alignment, and 16" long runners...

The manifold I pictured above is my Braineack custom manifold, it is my position to argue that the stock manifold sucks ass for top-end power.

Go for it. If I were you, and was just looking to spend money, I would go with a sponsor -or- make your own.

Mach929 04-27-2009 04:22 PM

i bet it works great as long as fitment is not an issue

My :2cents:. Looking at the description, I see more than a few areas of concern:

#1 They describe it as a cast manifold when clearly it's welded and not cast, unless they mean welded cast pieces, but then that just makes no sense as there are welds everywhere. Granted it doesn't say much about the manifold's function, but it sure says a hell of a lot about the seller.

#2 In a similar vein, they have simple spelling errors in the description like the words lightweight and smooth. Again, this says nothing about the IM itself, but again casts a lot of doubt about the seller.

#3 They assume (wrongly) that just b/c it has velocity stack that it will "of course, improve airflow". My biggest issue with all the current aftermarket IMs (with the exception of Begi's older cast IM), including the one from Flipside that I have, is that they all look pretty, but none to date (again, except the Begi's cast IM which is not avail for the 1.6) have any dyno proof or flowtesting. Without a doubt it's good to base the design on solid theory, but real world flow testing or dyno evidence pwns.

#4 The IM is made for the stock TB. Not a big deal, but at this point going with a larger, aftermarket IM, probably not a bad idea to upsize the TB as well. Granted not as big a deal as with SCs, but still if you are chasing the last bits of power with replacing the IM (since there are other areas that will give you more bang for the buck 1st), you're probably at the point where a bigger TB is in order as well.

#5 Their location is Thailand so unlike some of the local sponsors like Begi, I'm pretty sure that down the line if there is an issue, you will be SOL.

Reading your sig, looks like you have some quality parts into your car such as the built FM engine, Begi turbo kit, etc... Why throw on an unknown, possibly shoddy, ebay IM from Thailand when there are or will very soon be tested 1.6L IMs available in the US?

My favorite thing about this manifold is that it's available NOW. Could probably make the seller an offer of $350 and he'd take it.

gospeed81 04-27-2009 10:46 PM

I put in an offer for $50, who knows, anything is worth trying.

I'm pretty sure Rob at Flipside still has one available now, and I know of two Begi 1.6 IMs around (not including Brain's custom job) so I think they may have a jig but not sure about their lead times on that.

Or an even better idea, wait until some of us get around to dyno'ing with these diff IMs to figure out which one flooooooows... ;) Too bad we can't have a head to head test on the same car as there are several 1.6 IMs out there now: braineack's custom Begi one, newbsauce's Begi one that I believe is the proto for their jig, splittime's siiick looking one, mine from Flipside, and I'm sure I'm missing one or two more.

Braineack 04-27-2009 10:53 PM

once i send begi my dyno that shows major awesome improvement theyll sell them. which will be next monday.
