Edelbrock Intake manifold

I searched and didnt come up with much really. Ive seen some guys use the Honda I think its the B18 Edelbrock intake mani for our cars. Why havent more people done this? Im guessing its not that optimal on a smaller turbo like my stock IHI but even so, its taking an eternity for the rest of the vendors to make a decent mani.

*edit* heres one of the threads i found

neogenesis2004 09-17-2009 11:01 AM

I think it would help anyone breathe better up top.... More people don't do it because it requires cutting and welding and most just want something they can buy and bolt on. Its not a bad option though. I wonder if any motors that they make the victor x manifold for have similar port spacing to the 1.6? I'd get one done in a heart beat.

tyson87 09-17-2009 05:05 PM

not yet its too soon, ill go but i wont run. i didnt make any changes worth dynoing, but after my build im gonna dyno that ish.

leatherface24 09-17-2009 05:46 PM

yeah im the only turd in a punch bowl that needs to dyno his current setup

I already sent payment for the feed and drain lines. It depends on when you guys are available. Also where did you do your build?? I live in a townhose with very little working space. I had already asked a co-worker if I could use his garage and he said I could but I would have to let him know in advance.

About your 1.6, are you building it?? are you boring it out?? what exactly are you doing??

tyson87 09-18-2009 10:29 AM

.060" over bore, supertech pistons, m-tuned rods
the goal is to shame phil

tyson87 09-18-2009 10:34 AM

how are they attachting the fuel rail with this manifold?

for the 1.6's

That is awesome. Was that a single cut on a bandsaw?

AbeFM 09-18-2009 02:02 PM

How much are these bad boys?

Any more pics of that white car? The ex mani must be interesting, and the downpipe. certainly the BOV coming off the front is interesting.

http://www.plainmiata.com/DSC00981.JPG

Different car? Certainly a different mani unless I'm seeing things wrong.

Advanced Induction Research - Carbon Fiber Intake Manifolds

cute.

leatherface24 09-18-2009 02:19 PM

Anyone see where there could be a potential problem with the smaller plenum the skunk2 mani would pose?

elesjuan 09-18-2009 07:25 PM

Damn, that Skunk2 mani is under $300.00 even! Subscribe bitches!

AbeFM 09-18-2009 08:03 PM

What is this "skunk2" of which you speak? I want a picture!

neogenesis2004 09-18-2009 08:05 PM

Its a brand....you have never even looked into honda motors have you?

Nor have I, but I'm aware of Skunk2...

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/o...Skunk2Mani.jpg

It actually looks pretty good.. I am slightly concerned about the smaller plenum too however.

Yeah, I can't get over the small volume. Other than that it's not so bad... :-)

gospeed81 09-19-2009 08:56 AM

It would be great for port WI though.

AbeFM 09-19-2009 02:22 PM

port WI? Why? You'd think the longer the better.

Port water injection is better, why? think of direct port nitrous vs single nozzle. More accurate control of much water each cylinder is getting and the skunk2 manifold looks good for that because of the length and accessablility to the runners.

Unless you've come up with some solution for flow detection i'd recommend staying away from individual port WI.

A friends Civic popped it's motor because he had a blockage on 1 port nozzle.
He was running DDS3V8 which detects flow rates, but it spotted nothing.

The theory was that with 1 blocked nozzle this increased the pressure to the other 3 nozzles, so the flow readings were extremely close to normal operation.

The other thing is, if you use a HSV you have such fine control of the WI flow that you can start adding WI a 0psi in extremely small quantities and then gradually increase the flow with boost.

This gives the advantage of offering no lag between boost and water flow.

Lastly,
I have tested 4 0.4mm Aquamist nozzles and found that the flow rates were very different on all.
WI nozzles simply are not made to the same quality control standards as injectors, so the differences in flow rates between 4 nozzles of the same size was different enough to cause problems.

I've tried individual port WI, pre SC, post SC various nozzle sizes and locations, currently i'm running 1 nozzle on the post IC pipe but gradually adding water with the HSV, works a trwat.

Cheers
Mark

This should be about two weeks away from being finished with before and after dyno numbers. I just figured id let you all know that. Im also redoing the intercooler setup

Was alluding to the discussion within that thread about why you'd want port WI, with stock manifold or without.

Read the thread a few times thank you. :hustler:

EDITS:

Good point Eunos...that thought had never occured to me...

Leatherface: Props for taking action on this...manifolds seem to be the next big hurdle holding everyone back, and no one's done anything about it since Brain/BEGi back in Jan, and BMC race talking a lot and posting pretty pics.

leatherface24 09-21-2009 04:20 PM

belive it or not, my puny intercooler has worked just fine. im just going to try something different that i can incorporate into my vented hood. youll see what i mean

I'm having mine built right now. I'll post pics up when it's finished. A custom Honda Drag specialty company is doing the job and they mentioned they have one more cnc'd flange to do another if anyone is interested. PM me. mine is with a75mm ford throttle body.
