Egr

I was just wondering what most of you guys were doing with the EGR? I currently have mine hooked up. Is there any real performance gain from removing it? Other than saving the planet, is there any reason to leave it hooked up (with a standalone of course)?

'95 motor w/ eagle rods :cjerk: dang lucky, And idk lol sorry

Haha, thanks man. I'm just glad to have it back on the road. :)

That was part of the "save the planet" thing I was referring too. Aside from fuel economy, emissions, global warming, killing polar bears, etc, I take it that it's a good idea to remove the EGR?

y8s 10-26-2009 10:07 AM

no it's not a good idea to remove it.

it decreases combustion temps.
reduces detonation.
reduces gas consumption.
and of course all the planet stuff. gas consumption is a wallet item, not about the planet.

oh and it doesn't do ANYTHING outside of cruise. it doesn't rob you of any power.

I would still have it if i wasnt so cheap. FM's EGR tube that is needed for their manifold is way too much money. If it wasnt for that, why not keep it... for all the reasons y8s said...and one less CEL to fight at emissions time.

That's what I was looking for, thanks.

I want to keep mine but.....

I have a 99 BEGI manifold and a 2002 car. How do I get them to mate up on the cheap ?

y8s 03-23-2010 12:22 PM

Isn't the intake manifold side flange the same on both? I think you just need the 99 EGR pipe.

Jfornachon 03-23-2010 12:30 PM

Y8s you are correct. The only difference is the bung on the exhaust manifold.

Have a great day,
Jared

No point in two EGR threads so here we go.

Got a header with no EGR provision going on my 2000 so EGR will not be going back on. Also gets in the way of my re-route. I just don't want to see a CEL all the time, is there a way to "fool" the EGR to think its working? Like am O2 SIM.

Will your old EGR tube work on my car then since the changes were 2001 and up correct ??

Miata's in junk yards are scarce up here.

IcantDo55 03-23-2010 04:22 PM

EGR tubes:
99-00 and 04-05 (turbo) are the same
01-05 non-turbo are the same.

That help?

Landrew 03-23-2010 05:01 PM

You guys all help !

Alrighty then, who wants to send me their old and unwanted 99-00 EGR tube assembly for just the price of USPS shipping (which i will pre-pay of course)?

Don't let another day of that poor EGR tube staring at you with wanton eyes wishing it had purpose make your heart heavy. Export, export to Canada and help a fellow turbonian........

I'm so glad I read this thread. I finally found why my car detonates during cruise. I removed my EGR!!

I'm still working on DEI...the ultimate EGR.

escort intake manifold with 2.5 pipe connected to absurd downpipe.
