EGR difference
Does anyone know the difference B/t and egr system in a 94 miata compared to a 99. The reason Im asking is because I am about to purchase a begi manifold that will bolt up to my car, but keith from FM said there is a difference b/t the two cars egr system. He said there is an easy fix, but forgot what it was. Can anyone shed some light on this.

I think what some poeple do is buy the EGR tube (from mazda) for the model that will fit the manifold and retrofit it....something like that....others should chime in.

Removed the EGR system completely from my '99.

How did you do that, and was it difficult

Actually I bought the car without EGR already. I'm pretty sure it includes removing the EGR crossover and blocking the holes. All the EGR system does is reuse exhaust so remove it and be done with it. That of course depends on your emissions requirements of course, not sure how it is in PA.

my egr was off my car when i bought it. then again that is how it was produced in 90  also took off the charcoal canister today for good measure.

EGR, along with almost all emission controls, are turned off during WOT, so removing them should have some goal other than increasing power. |

Removing EGR on a stock ecu car can result on increased part-throttle knock. The exhaust gas dilutes the incoming air charge, so the engine requires more timing. Without EGR, the stock ECU will still command that timing, and the more dense air charge is more likely to knock.
