Emissions time
Passed my emissions test yesterday:bigtu: I was kinda worried about that, but it all went very smooth, except for the part where a fat technician couldn't fit in my bucket seat:gay:
OBDII with EMU. |
Emissions sure gets easier the older car gets... in Atlanta. I passed with a 2.3 blowing 60psi of compression from the 2 & 3 cylinders into the crankcase and only a coarse autotune on the link. :eek5: The only visual inspection we get is a "cat check". They don't even clip the plug wire anymore, they put an inductive pickup on the dash.

Do not like talking without tools on something I never tried since have never had any type of vehicle inspection since leaving Europe in 1980. At a car show at the Trident Automotive College I had an emissions test (for fun) conducted but students and instructors. I easily passed the SC test with an 8 PSI Aerodyne and no CAT.
Mentioned to the instructors about how many seem to have problems in CA and how can they prepare better for the testing. Aside from the usual suggestions about a tune up, water trick cleaning, and CAT, he suggested using one range hotter spark plugs just for testing. Unknown if it really works or not. Wondering if anyone has done that? |
I was always a fan of getting a friend to inspect my vw on haltech. We just pulled up another car with an obd port and everything was gravy.

I don't see why one couldn't do a similar thing in ATL. They look for the barcode in the door jamb to scan the VIN. Most of the people working in these test "huts" could care less what kind of car it is.
