engine crank but won't start after engine r/i
 

After i remove the engine and replace the clutch, the rear main seal, the front crankshaft seal and the timing bell, oil pan gasket and other stuff. I installed my engine today and the engine wont start. I did smell gas coming out of my exhaust pipe and there's spark on the plugs. Would i mess up the timing when i install the timing belt? I did line up everything according to the service manual include the two cam and the bottom crankshaft (with the mark). When i install the engine, i notice i banged the cas into the fire wall a lot, would that cause the damage in the cas? Would leaving the cas out in the sun damage it? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you .

If you have spark, your CAS is fine. do you hear the fuel pump come on? what year is your car? that may help as well.

also, if i did the timing belt wrong, would the slightly change cause the engine to not start at all? Or it'll start and runs crappy. Sorry for so many noob question since this is the first time i remove my engine.

of course if you did the timing belt wrong it could prevent the car from running.

you need fuel, spark, and compression to start it, figure out what you arent getting correctly.

I assume the the engine is good, you smell fuel, so you must no be igniting the fuel correctly.

so the only problem would probably be the timing when i change the timing belt. I realize the crankshaft to camshaft ratio is 2:1. I did not rotate the crankshaft 2 revolutions when the camshaft line up. Will this cause damage to the valves since i cranked the motor numerous times with the starter?

its a non-interference motor, it shouldnt damage the valves.

Was your timing off 180*? Where is your exhaust leak coming from?

i am guessing the exhaust was leaking from the maniful , i have a turbo exhaust installed but with no turbo. When i have time , i would change the gasket and tighten all the bolts to see if there's any improvement. As for the timing goes, my timing was not off by 180 degress, as long you line up all the marks it wouldn't be off. I did not secure the cams when i put it on, so the timing was off by alot. So i use two spare wrench with a clamp and reinstall the timing belt. It runs fine now, i just don't like the sound of my exhaust.
