Engine model explanation

Hi,
I plan I swapping a vvt motor inside my NA chassis and have come across the models known as bp6d and bpz3. I’m assuming that the bp6d is the American model while the other one is the Japanese one (if not please correct me lol). Is there a different between the two and are they both compatible with the same pieces (Like transmissions etc....) and able to hold the same amount of power if boosted?

this is the reason I’m asking because I found this engine.

The problem with the JDM engines is that most of the accessories and wiring/sensors are not compatible with US cars. Not a big deal if you’re swapping out same for same in a VVT car and only need the longblock, but much more of an issue jf
you’re swapping it into an NA. You’re better off finding a USDM engine from an NB2.

Well I’m already going to the MS3 once the build starts to utilize the vvt. Are you referring to wiring and sensors not fitting due to it being a 1.6?

I believe it’s more like differences in the wiring harnesses. Different connectors, etc. I think you’d have to essentially build an entire custom harness for the car. But you should look in the VVT mega thread for that info, this is second hand, I’ve not looked into it in any depth

Ok will do, thanks!

Since MirShahin is already proposing a fairly involved engine swap (VVT engine into an NA body), I wouldn't be concerned with the relatively minor differences between US / Euro / Asian models.

Judging by the photos in the eBay listing, the engine in question appears to come with a complete (albeit cut) wiring harness, and he will be able to salvage the connectors and pigtails from that to adapt to his car. He'd need to do this regardless of whether it was a US-spec or Asian-spec engine, as absolutely nothing is plug-in compatible between a 1990 body and an NB engine.

As an aside, that engine includes the best OEM intake and exhaust manifold in the whole B-series engine family. The exhaust manifold, in particular, will not mate with any cat-back exhaust system which you can find in the US, so plan on either replacing it with an aftermarket unit or doing some custom fabrication to adapt a US-style catback to it.

Ok thanks. I’ll be in for a long ride it seems like

I could be wrong as this just came from my own googling I did a while ago, but my understanding is that BP6D is the VVT cylinder head designation, and BP-Z3 is the full engine designation.
