engine question.

ok so a couple of weeks ago my 99 miata engine went "small" boom and cracked, bent slash broken some pistons and now i need a new engine. So i found a guy that's selling a 2000 miata engine that's automatic and was wondering if i can just hook that engine up to my manual trans or is there anything special i have to buy to hook this engine up.

Yup. '99 and '00 engines are functionally identical and completely interchangeable. And auto vs. Manual isn't a big deal. Might be a tiny difference in CR or cam grind (I'd have to do some research) but even if so, it'll be fairly trivial. Just swap over your old flywheel and you're good to go.

ok kool because this is a deal of a lifetime nothing wrong with this engine at all it has 64k miles on it and im buying it for $800. i was talking to a co-worker and he was saying something about changing a pilot bushing or bearing and it should be fine that it would hook right up but just making sure before i do this so i don't buy a engine that id have to spend alot more money to convert thanks for the response an hope to here from you again about the change.

Find out what killed your other one, so it doesn't happen to the new one.:2cents:

I just checked both the FSM and the dealer parts catalog. So far as I can tell, there is no difference at all between the MT and AT engines- same cams, same pistons, etc. The earlier engines had some slight differences between MT and AT, but the NB motors don't appear to.
