Exedy Clutches

So, with all the clutch talk that's been going on around here lately....why hasn't anyone mentioned exedy? Nobody wants to be the guinea pig...or someone has and i just missed a thread with a horrible review?

The reason i ask is that i am also in the market for a clutch...sonner than later....and i've been going back and forth between being set on spec and exedy...just haven't heard much about the exedy yet.

The Stage 1 is going to be exactly what the ACT HD is, expect you dunno what the ACT PP is rated at. The Discs will be the exact same. See if you can't call ACT and see what the clamping force of thier PP is...The Exedy Stage I is 1160lbs.

So overall quality should be on par with ACT?

And a stage one should hold fine for 6-7 PSI....maybe 10-11 in the near future?

205.95...that really an exedy?

Braineack 02-05-2007 01:25 PM

Should be, they are the largest OEM brand....they manufacture the OEM miata clutch.

Since both kits use the same components, you want to at least compare the Pressure Plates. If the ACT has more clamping force, it will hold more, and vise-versa.

I'm holding about 210tq on the ACT HD, which is rated for 200tq. That's close to the 10-13psi range on a GReddy.

yeah, but that's OEM....you want to look at, at least the Stage I:

it's just this sold as another brand: http://www.competitionclutch.com/ind...location=sport

I personally would look at the stage two of that brand, I wouldn't like a puck on the street.

I like the part where it says:

Offers 40-50% of torque capacity and maintains stock pedal feel.
You know... for when you make your 4 cylinder into a 2 cylinder.

Braineack 02-05-2007 01:51 PM

hehehe. I still dont see why 9-10 clutch companies can't figure out the math. That's why I hate how companies rate clutches....tells you nothing. But when ACT says 200tq, they got the right idea.

I have the exedy Organic racing clutch on my 5.

I have a 1.6l but swapped in a 1.8 exedy clutch and a 1.8 flywheel.

It holds the power rerally well but if you do any clutch drop starts it does tend to smell.

y8s 02-05-2007 03:36 PM

math shmath. get a dummy flywheel and input shaft and hook the shit all up and get a 10 foot torque arm. start applying weight to it. when it slips, you know the torque rating.

10 foot * 10 lbs = 100 ft-lbs.
