exhaust manifold gasket question
hey, i noticed theres two different part numbers for the exhaust manifold gaskets, one for the cylinder head side and one for the exhaust side. Looking at my old gasket it appears that the only difference is that little tab on the bottom. Do i really need to get the two different ones? my dealership only has the exhaust side in stock, could i just use two of those?

cylinder head side? do you mean intake manifold?

what you want is this:
http://www.finishlineperformance.com...n&key=MIAG1007 what you are getting confused with is this???: http://www.finishlineperformance.com...n&key=MIAD1061 The exhaust manifold gasket is a 2-piece design, but it shouldn't have two part numbers. |

Oddly, it seems that he's right, at least for the US Spec 1.6. The Mazda parts book shows the two pieces as separate items, part numbers B695-13-460A and B695-13-462, and on the diagram they're not conjoined by the line that typically denotes multiple parts as a package. See attachment.
To answer the original question, assuming your exhaust gasket is damaged and in need of replacing, try it and see. I think that the manifold side is the one with the bead rolled in it and the head side the flat piece, so you might be able to re-use that side. If your old gasket isn't destroyed however, re-use it. That's what most folks do (myself included), and I believe that FM, Greddy, etc actually recommend it. |
I believe that the gasket is made up of two pieces spot welded together. They probably call out both parts more for internal engineering and procurement reasons and it got that way into the workshop manual.
