Failed inspection in Jersey

So I failed inspection today. Failed for emissions and improper brake balance. The brakes I'm not really suprised about cause yesterday that caliper locked up on me and was smoking like crazy. But the emissons thing sucks. My CO% levels were too high. The accepted value is 0.89 and mine was a 1.12. All the other levels were well under what the accepted values are. Any suggestions as to what it might be? I do run a megasquirt and on 93 octane fuel.

Thanks

High %CO is running lean. High HC's is rich.

pa has a tougher inspection than nj does. they aren't state run like nj is, so if they can fail you for something in order to make money they will.

high NOX is usually a result of a lean condition. CO can be a little more tricky than that. my money is on a rich condition, not lean.

check all the usual tune up items.

is your timing advanced? if so i'd put it back to stock and try again.

Sorry to bring up old threads, but i finally got around to getting my car reinspected. Passed with flying colors this time thanks to Paul. We loaded the base DIY timing map and went out tuning for a couple min.

Here's what my readings came out to be:

"Standard" - My Reading
NOx 1242 - 276
HC 159 - 18
CO% 0.89 - 0.02

And the only part that really sux about this whole thing is that I had to get a full reinspection because I went 45 days over their grace period of getting it done, and I failed for my air horns. :jerkit:

Im surprised Tim hasnt gotten the license to perform state inspections wink wink.

Unless dirty jersey doesnt work like that, then my joke is moot.

I recently failed NJ inspection for high NOX; played with timing (stock ECU with EMB fueling coming in only under boost).

Tried several times with timing reductions and approached good NOX, but HC went up. Finally went for a new cat and cured everything.

well i'm glad you updated, because i was just thinking about getting air horns. i may put that purchase off for a while longer now.

One of the locals here actually put in a toggle switch and kept the stock horn for inspection. One way its the stock horn, the other its a really loud annoying air horn. Best of both worlds with just a little extra wire and a switch.
