Default Fuel filter replacement

General questions:

How often do you replace your fuel filter and what would the signs be that you might need to replace it?

I've been tuning my new set-up and it occured to me that i hadn't replaced my fuel filter since installing my Greddy 4 years ago.

That's probably a sign you should change it.

Yah, fo' sho'.

I think I remember seeing something about every 30-60K miles. For future reference, should I change it according to mileage, time, crusty build-up on the cover???
