Fastener Witch hunt

From the makers of the connector witch hunt thread we're now pleased to bring you the fastener witch hunt thread.

So I can order any bolt I want from mazdaspeed by part number and whatever, they dont publish the spec. For a lot of bolts you can just throw the part number into google and get the bolt info, not so much for some, like the throttle body bolts. For example, right now my TB is held on with 3 studs that I snagged off the various NB intake manifolds I have but I'm missing the long bolt, and I'd really like to replace the nut and stud that goes to the TB brace with the bolt thats supposed to be there.

So, later I'll start a google doc spreadsheet and we'll categorize the bolts by location, what they do, their mazda PN, and what the heck it actually is so you can buy it from the hardware store or mcmaster. Yes I realize that like 80% of this spreadsheet is going to have M6x1.00x12mm bolts in it. :giggle:

But to start maybe one of you know what 9979-40-845 and 9979-40-865 are.

Super shocker here. See those last 4 digits? Those are the size of the bolt.

M8x1.25x45 and M8x1.25x65 are the two sizes of the two part numbers I listed. Well mazda, there's thinking with your head.

I was gonna jump in, but that's how Suzuki did my motorcycle. Part number is size and length of bolt/stud.

BTW, AFAIK TB should have 2 studs and 2 bolts.

I realize this, but I had 2 intake manifolds, 2 throttle bodys, and zero bolts that worked. So I made the car run. I'm going to do it properly now that there is a skunk at my house.

Huh, never knew that the diameter/length was part of the part number. Are there any bolts that are non-standard pitch on the car and if so, what do their part numbers look like?

There are a couple of tables I frequently consult when pondering Miata bolts (which are for the most part, JIS standard).

Seat belts aren't metric. Only ones I know of.

There are a number (probably a few) of fine thread pitch bolts on the car, Usually of the M8 or bigger variety. They are difficult to find locally, but the tubez has plenty.
