Default Thanks flyinmiata :/

Sorry just a rant but I'm extremely unhappy with FM at the moment.

The axle back portion broke off when I was driving on the freeway. Does anyone know if they warranty their exhaust?

Have you talked to them? They're famous for their customer service, and a quick search show that their exhaust carries a lifetime warranty. I know you're peeved your Miata is down for the weekend, but don't be a sour customer. **** happens and this is definitely an isolated event.

I haven't talk to them yet, and I know their customer service is awesome which why I bought their product. I'm just upset because I'm on the side of road waiting for a tow. I'll be given them a call on Tuesday after Memorial Day.

Meh. I've gotten a ref ticket before in my wrx. I rather not risk it, plus this is why I have AAA :P

1) stop being ridiculously over-paranoid and just drive the car back
2) as far as I know, they do warranty their exhausts. might be limited to original owner though

Sadly, I know someone who within the past three years, has had three FM exhausts. Yes, the first two got replaced, though he had to pay the shipping, for returns, which in my book is kinda sucky. So no, not an isolated incident, and not only I'm a fan of FM I know the owners (Bill and Terry) quite well.

FM's exhausts are all made by Thermal, and yeah, they have a really good warranty on them.

That's a bizarre-looking failure.

Yeah that's definitely a funny looking failure. It looks like the whole weld cracked out.

Not a weird failure at all. Cracked in the HAZ around the weld. Probably started somewhere and worked itself around. Could have been incomplete penetration, or a incomplete weld.

My (used) FM exhaust that I put on a few weeks back had the cat clog up in short order, ruining my track day. I limped it back to an exhaust shop and they had to fix some broken welds on the rest of the exhaust after they welded in the new cat.

As others have said, there should be a lifetime warranty (for the original purchaser) for the exhaust which is actually made by Thermal Research and Development. I'm not sure if you have a 3.0" turbo exhaust (looks just like mine), but I've had my axle back portion fail two times. Each time it failed where the exhaust pipe meets the muffler body on the non-reinforced side. Through my griping with FM, they eventually changed the design so it has reinforcement tabs on the top and bottom. The new one has been holding fine since late Jan 2017 but I don't put a ton of miles on.

Just an FYI, the first replacement I got on 4/13/16 and it was the old style design. Received the new style 1/30/17

FM exhaust on my MSM had been re-welded at some point as well.

Whoa. Didn't know there was a design change.

I bought the exhaust on 3/25/16. I guess I should have waited lol.

I'm sending the muffler out to thermal this week.

Love the neg cats

At the risk of more neg. cats, here is what the failure looks like up close.
