Default wheel stud changes?

I was finally swapping my 1.8 axles from 2-piece non-ABS axles to 1-piece ABS axles this morning. The ABS axles had hubs/uprights stuck on them, so I was replacing the whole unit. One "new" hub was missing wheel studs. I tried putting in a wheel stud from a '93, but it was way too small in diameter. I assume the change was in '94 or '99, but Advance Auto shows the same part number for rear studs from 90-05. That can't be right.

Question is: was there a change in rear wheel studs some year? What year should I tell the guy at the parts store so I get a proper stud?

The only change I can find, according to the Mazda parts catalog, occurred mid-year in '93. VINs up to -3601 got P/N B455-33-062, with later cars getting B01Y-33-062. This part when then used in all the cars through at least '99, which is the latest catalog that I have access to. The change occurred at the same time as a change to the hub.

So, it's entirely possible that the stud you pulled from the '93 hub was the earlier style, and that AA's parts catalog is in error for the early 1.6 cars.

Thanks Joe. I'll grab some for a '99.

Just a follow up to wrap up this thread: the studs are in fact different, and much easier to replace on the newer hubs.
