FM-FU......again.

this is not designed to bash any vendors, though i don't mind if it turns into it. i'm very displeased.......

-these are facts.

-i have made two purchases from flyinmiata.

-both have been screwed up.

-first on was for a rollbar last year that they addressed to the wrong location. luckily i was able to track it down and go retrieve it.

-the second took place today when i received my high flow catalytic convertor. they somehow sent a 1.8L cat (innocent enough) instead of the 1.6L that i needed. when i contacted them they informed me that they would not send out the correct part until they received the returned part. the only exception to that would be if i paid for the second one up-front. even at this point i was easy going enough to say "o.k., bill me for the second just please send it out with expedited shipping". i was told that they do not pay for any expedited shipping...:vash:....only ground shipping would be free for me. i don't find this to be acceptable and will be the reason that i will not make any other purchases with them and i will spread the word of my experience.
funny thing is....when i removed the shipping label from my box there was another shipping label underneath. it leads me to believe that this is not the first time that this exact part has been returned to flyinmiata for the same exact reason.

-beware of flyinmiata. :nono:

Pitlab77 01-28-2008 08:41 PM

I think if a mistake was made in shipping they should help you out since you car might be sitting around because of their fault.

Braineack 01-28-2008 08:49 PM

welcome to the club :)

budget racer 01-28-2008 08:52 PM

i posted the same thing at m.net........waiting to see how long til the moderators come to the rescue.

elesjuan 01-28-2008 09:08 PM

I've only purchased a few little things from them, like an oil line, few fittings, and heater core. What I saved on the heatercore made me happy enough that their shipping was slower than shit. I'd never buy anything major from them.

jayc72 01-28-2008 09:17 PM

They accidentally sent a part I ordered to an old address. They missed during the email exchange that I had a new address. They immediately sent out another part once I notified them of the error.

I think the issue is people. Sometimes you get the right person and your experience is good. I've been lucky and have had good experiences, but I do prefer to have all of my dealings via email so I have a record of what was said.

Saml01 01-28-2008 09:27 PM

Take a shit into the catalytic before you send it back.

paul 01-28-2008 09:49 PM

hahahaha

RusMan 01-28-2008 10:53 PM

I bought some stuff from them, everything came except that I got someone else's invoice, for totally different products.

patsmx5 01-29-2008 12:25 AM

Wow that's messed up they wouldn't get you the correct part quicker. I'll never buy from them if that's the way the handle the customers when THEY make a mistake. That 20 bucks they saved from not giving you quicker shipping will cost them much more, as myself and others will not buy from them.

But to tell the truth, I ordered a book from Begi and after 2 weeks of it not showing up, I called to find out the order had never been processed. Turns out they "misplaced" my order. They shipped it free but only regular ground shipping, same as what FM is doing to you. I was quite disapointed they didn't send it quicker after I had been waiting for 2 weeks on a book that THEY FORGOT to ship. So I'm not in a hurry to purchase anything else from them any time soon either.

If it's handled how it usually is, we'll wait until FM responds and then close it.

I get the feeling sometimes that they do WANT to give the good customer service that they did before and what they are known for. They have just got a bit too big for it now.

I messed up an endlink when I removed the stock sway bars and called them to get a new one (I told them I only needed one!) from their salvage department. They said that they had 2 in and since I just bought the complete suspension kit from them, they would send me the endlinks and just charge for shipping. Nice! Not a lot of money but a nice gesture. Then nothing happened. I called and asked a week later. The answer was: "Oh yeah, I remember that! But one of the endlinks we had were broken, so we didn't send them." They had my number and my email but did nothing, just didn't send the stuff. That turns an attempt to good service into a slightly nonchalant way of treating a customer. And it kept my car for another week in the garage.

urgaynknowit 01-29-2008 06:51 AM

down time = the ghey

if car sits because of my stupidity, i fail
but
if because of them, the car sits, i would be upset

you had downtime from just a sway bar endlink? Your car can drive fine without sway bars. granted that you may not like the way it feels, but i wouldn't consider it downtime.

m2cupcar 01-29-2008 09:17 AM

ya know FM has a database of mt.net members, so if you're on that list you're pretty much guaranteed crappy service :gay:

didn't take long for the mods to kiss some vendor ass

"Ok, now that both sides have had the chance to air their sides of this I feel we can close this thread. Any further issues with FM can be dealt with privately."

yeah, didn't take long.

jayc72 01-29-2008 11:45 AM

We do have a couple of employees who are very valuable to us in other ways who don't always give the best impression on the phone, I'll admit. We're doing our best to keep them away from customers.
This is promising. At least they have acknowledged that there has been an issue. I imagine this would be Jeremy, any negative contact I've had with FM has involved him.

Too bad the moderator closed the thread after Keith responded, would have been nice to hear the rebuttal. I hate when stuff like this is one sided, they should have let it play out providing it remained civil.

teknikscian 01-29-2008 12:03 PM

at least one person on there made a valid point.

where the hell are we supposed to post feedback and expereinces from vendors if mods keep closing the damn threads and claiming that "bashing" is going on..

m.net is teh sux0r... their archives are nice though

Ben 01-29-2008 12:07 PM

That's can't happen. M.net is a business that does not want to loose FM's "free" $2400 / yr.

Gary's been a lot nicer to me lately

"After this problem we did some investigation. It turns out that when the catalytic converters were shipped to us, there were some 1.6 cats in boxes with 1.8 part numbers on them. We're opening up all the stock to do a visual check"

So it's a known problem? :vash: why wouldn't you take care of me by just expediting the shipment?

y8s 01-29-2008 12:28 PM

someone post a near-exact complaint about a random supplier that nobody's heard of and see if it's dealt with the same way.

budget racer 01-29-2008 12:31 PM

i have conversed with Bill @ Flyinmiata. he seems to understand the situation and told me that he is upgrading the shipping to 3 day. fair, and the way it should have been from the get-go.

but will it bring me around to order from them again? i dunno.

SloS13 01-29-2008 12:43 PM

No

m2cupcar 01-29-2008 02:56 PM

naw - I've had superb service from them for the most part. I've bought a boost control, software upgrade and used turbo from them. All was as-advertised and delivered promptly (to the correct address). Both Bill and Jeremy have answered all my emails within a couple of days. But unfortunately none of this seems to be the norm for forum members here. :dunno:

That's how my oldest transactions from FM went. The recent 2 or 3 were teh sux

m2cupcar 01-29-2008 03:41 PM

There's the reason I'm the only one working for my current employer - it has everything to do with managing people and my inability to do it. It's hard work. :D

Keith@FM 01-29-2008 07:06 PM

I'm glad we were able to sort this out with budget racer. I made a mistake in my posting to Miata.net, I got the 1.6 and 1.8 backwards. It certainly wasn't a known problem, and it's a problem we'll be able to avoid from now on. budget racer did get personal apologies from both Bill and I and we expedited the shipping of the part, so he'll have it for Friday.

The rollbar problem appears to have been a communication problem between us and Hard Dog. We have the right address in our system, so I'm not sure if I can find out where the mistake was made. Every time something like this happens, we do try to track down the cause so we can prevent it from happening again.

I don't "track people down". Contrary to popular belief, we do have a few happy customers. They'll often let me know if FM is getting abused somewhere.

I do enjoy the conspiracy theories, though. We keep a database of miataturbo.net members so we can give them crappy service? That would be a lot more difficult than trying to provide good service to everyone. So we go with the latter. It's a shame that we make mistakes once in a while, but it gives you all something to complain about :)

At least I haven't made one of FM yet. :)

theres your "good service to everyone"

Keith@FM 02-01-2008 07:33 PM

Oh, great.

The cat left here with 3-day shipping on Tuesday, just like we promised. Guaranteed delivery by close of business Friday. And UPS didn't get it there. Fan-bloody-tastic. Thanks for that, UPS. We get the credit for the screwup.

budget racer, you can track the package through our website using the order number. I've emailed the tracking info to you in case you don't have it on file. The cat is about 40 miles from your home right now but UPS isn't going to deliver it until Monday.

Can I make a request to all of our customers? If there's a problem with a shipment from us, please let us know directly. We have email and toll-free phone lines to make it as easy as possible. We can't fix problems we don't know about.

Not that we can fix this one anyhow, UPS is pretty inflexible.

elesjuan, your gif caused a fair amount of entertainment around the office. I'm glad we're not the subject!

Keith, you and FM at least know what you're talking about when it comes to miatas. The day you try to argue that a duck is a chicken, and you'll be animated within ten minutes.

Ben 02-01-2008 08:51 PM

If UPS missed the delivery, you can call up their 800 number and ask to speak to a manager. They can delivery Saturday AM. They use independent contractors to do it, so you may get a little friction at first, but they WILL agree to do it at their expense.

Also sometimes, you can get a driver to swing back by on a weekday evening. They're typically willing to do it because they get overtime. Though I could see someone not wanting to work late on Friday.

You haven't suggested using the VooDoo as an Intercooler... Don't worry, the moment Jeremy or you do that... We'll have a gif for you too. ;)

You missed Tom telling his customers that E85 would have the same latent cooling using "E-Cool" as gasoline because it's only 15% ethanol.

Mark

PS - I want to add that I have purchased 1000's of dollars in stuff from FM, and they always went the extra mile for service. So despite being "anti-FM" as I am often told I am, I wanted to add that just for clarity.
