FM, the low price leader

I don't hate FM at all and there are a few things I'd like to get from them in the near future but I have never been able to say they're the cheapest before (except maybe DotD). They have new steel flywheels, though, for <$300. I'd like to get one + ACT heavy duty. They only offer 13.5lbs right now and they still want too damn much for the ACT. I still may just go to Goodwin.

If they don't have it cheaper, I'll eat my hat. I got my ACT HD/6-puck with both bearings and an alignment tool from them, shipped across the country, for $377.

I will check on flywheel pricing come monday, I may be able to get us a lightweight steel flywheel for cheap.

I will let you know.

Pitlab77 05-05-2007 09:13 AM

try driving a miata with and without a lightweight flywheel. I hate them actually.

t25miata 05-05-2007 09:36 AM

I find my NA6 a pleasure to drive with a HEAVIER flywheel. I just put in the 1.8l clutch and flywheel and sure, it does react as quickly, but the rolling torque is great!

I'd stay with standard weight if you can get a clutch that will hold your power level and feel right for you.

I have an almost new 7.5 lb Fidanaza and ACT HD for sale. PM if interested.

BEGi may have them even cheaper...call and check. They quoted me a great price, but I also just sent them 1 month's pay.

Braineack 05-05-2007 12:12 PM

I took my 9lbs. flywheel off for an OEM one.

What is the problem with them exactly? You're losing revs to fast?

Braineack 05-05-2007 02:06 PM

My chattered like hell..and I didn't like it.

I loved how rev happy it felt with it, much improved over the OEM piece...however, it wasn't worth the RPM drop. If the a/c is on 9/10 times it would stall.

I feel like I should have machined the weight off my stocker, but didn't do it...I miss the lightweight and don't at the same time.

arga 05-05-2007 02:16 PM

I hate admitting my inadequacies but I can't heel-toe. When I come out of a corner and off the brake I want the revs up quick as I come off the clutch. I thought a lighter fw might help.

Braineack 05-05-2007 02:21 PM

they make it easier to do, barely have to even touch the gas pedal and your revs will jump to redline.

arga 05-05-2007 02:29 PM

Sounds like 13lbs may be the best compromise.

jayc72 05-05-2007 02:31 PM

I've got a 8lb SPEC flywheel in my car. I like it, but soon grew used to it and don't notice it any longer.

I really wouldn't waste the money on a flywheel that is only slightly lighter than OEM, but I may not be sensitive enough to notice/care.

I've done just that and I will NOT get a lightened wheel. I have one on my last race car and it was sweet for a N/A car.

i'd gotten used to heel toeing my stock flywheel, i drove an NC and tried to do it, about revved the poor thing to redline. stock just takes a big, kinda long kick from the side of your foot.

kotomile 05-06-2007 01:49 PM

Have an 8 lb Fidanza on my 1.6 and love it... no chatter and it's very easy to heel/toe.

kung fu jesus 05-06-2007 02:19 PM

yah, i've had the 7.XX flywheel and ACT xt00 1.6 clutch on my car for about 4 years. with turbo, without turbo, with s/c. never chattered. it does add driveline noise. it has been one of my favorite mods. never any stall issues.

krayzrac3r 05-06-2007 03:07 PM

i have the 9 lb act in mine. No problems whatsoever and no chatter at all. Besides its not even my daily driver so why not go all out? Thats just how i see it. I really dont think i would do it though if it were my daily driver...especially with the 6 puck clutch that i have too

nester 05-15-2007 02:04 PM

I finally figured out something on flywheels..

I have available 3 flywheels.. 2 are steel, one is 13.2 lbs, one is 9.9lbs. There is also an aluminum flywheel, but I do not have a weight for it yet.

I can do the 13.2 for like $265.. The 9.9lbs for $280.
