front bumper removal

Okay i cant get it out... I've taken so many nuts bolts off it's unbelieveable. Where are the hidden nuts. I've taken 1 under each headlight off, is there another? It seems to pull free in the middle and the bottoms sides, but the top corners wont budge

i've had mine off 3 times in the last 2 mos and trying to remember.

8 14mm bolts hold it on to the bumper support.
6 10mm bolts that hold the metal frame to the "Radiator support" section
2 10mm nuts(1 on each side) that are way out to the ends of the bumper under the headlights in a horizontal front/back orientation
4 10mm nuts (2 per side) inside fenders that attach to front bumper. remove wheel well liners to get to them
2 10mm bolts (1 per side) holding those bars that attach the lower bumper to the frame so it doesn't flex

that should be it

You got the two nuts on each side that are accessible only after you remove the fender liners? Sounds like those are the ones. First time I forgot them and had the same problem as you.

Dow.tom 10-21-2007 07:12 AM

yeah my liner is still in, i only took off the one covering the washer fluid. so i'll try that

Hahah I just finished going through this a few days ago installing a new driverside fender. Oh man taking off those little nuts that hold the bumper inbetween the headlight and frame is ridiculous. I just left them off, but assembled everything else back on.

Dow.tom 10-21-2007 09:15 AM

there's only one of those on each side right?

Behind the liners? No, there is 2 on each side.

It is not hard. I had it off in 30min with no instructions, doing it the first time.

Its not like they are "stealth" fasteners or some shit, you look what is holding it in, and you unbolt them.

Dow.tom 10-21-2007 11:08 AM

okay it's off... enough bolts just snapped heh. so i'll address that later.

Now that it's off which cross member does the intercooler normally mount to?

Everyone does it differently. I made a bracket for mine that mounts to where the A/C condenser would normally go: https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/sh...ht=intercooler. The best pictures are at the bottom of the thread in post # 36.

FM's website and instructions illustrate a different method, worth checking out.

Mine had a bracket welded to the top of the IC which I bolted to the hood latch bracket. I also built 2 brackets for the bottom which riveted to the IC and bolted to the radiator.

Dunno if that helps with your setup or not.

and the easiest way(or the drifters way) to put it on is say 4 of those 10mm bolts on the top. and 1 med. sized zip tie on the corners where it meets the fender. Easiest/quickest way for speedy removal/installation

Dow.tom 10-24-2007 12:02 AM

well i test fit it in and no luck, so im gunna go to the dark side... WI

cjernigan 10-24-2007 12:09 AM

Giving up pretty easy. What makes it not fit. Just way to large or do it just bump into the A/C dryer?
