Default Front end collision, airbags deployed. Repairable?

So I was in an accident this morning and it really messed my front end up; Bumper cover, hood+hinges, pass. headlight and fender from what I can see, no damage to the radiator core or IC thankfully. Car drives but passenger wheel drags on bumper where it was pushed back some if I drive straight or turn left. The big deal: Airbags deployed, killed my driver's window and windshield.

This is a DD that I'd like to keep. Optimistically speaking, what all would I need to replace to fix the bags? Besides the dash and wheel and their bags. I'm happy to use used bits if they come out of a car I know didn't deploy the bags.

I am already taking the car to my dad's shop where we'll be repairing hail and deer damage on the driver's side. We're already replacing the front bumper, driver's fender and I already have a painted hood ready to go. I'm still pretty pissed about it but I'm glad I'm OK besides a little beating from the bag (really hurts to shift now..).

Oh and the cops reaction to my plates (ALLOFIT): "Really..?! Well it certainly was."

This is a semi-blind 2-way stop intersection. You have to roll almost INTO the intersection to see oncoming traffic to have enough time to get through the intersection. It's really bad, and I've known for a while now that it might be where I'd have an accident. I looked both ways, right-left, started rolling into the intersection looking right, looked left and an SUV was in front of me. Hit the brakes but the motion between gas and brake and the time to depress the peddle was just too much. I watched it all in slow motion, the closing gap, her car moving to the right, my fender hitting her door bottoms+running board, her right-rear wheel burying itself into my bumper cover and the airbags going off, followed by a 1-2 second blackout.

Oh and the other driver who was definitely going faster than the posted 30mph immediately jumped out of her car and went into hysterics saying I was trying to murder her and her child.. She called LEO and an ambulance who came out and found nothing wrong with either of them. I on the other hand may need a prescription for some meds to deal with this shoulder :(

Do you have state inspections that require airbags?

I bought a cheap ebay hub and a ~$120 NRG wheel on the driver's side. Pulled the airbag out of the passenger side and zip tied the airbag cover to the dash so it looks stock. Then use this to kill the airbag light: http://www.miataturbo.net/general-mi...ght-fix-62652/

Glad you made it out ok and hopefully the repairs are as simple as it appears. Post some pictures when you get a chance.

you got a miata. you can always rebuild it. there are so many legal chop shops out there. Maz mart said they will sell me a shell for under a thousand bucks. we hit a wall a few years ago, bent the snot out of the frame behind the head lights. lucky all the pick up points where still in the original location. we cut the old stuff off and welded in new frame rails.

Here's the front end, hey my plate made it! Driver's headlight is ? right now.

Here's the side, it really looks worse than it is. NO leaking fluids, car drives straight.

Her car, my bumper hugged her running board and lower doors, her wheel ate my bumper cover as you can see.

Here's what I can see, at the stop sign, at sitting height in the Miata. As you can see, you can only really see so far before it's just blind. This is on BOTH directions too.

Now, they recently did some traffic changes on the major byway a few blocks up and now all of the traffic from that is pushed into the side streets, including this street. I've known for a while it was bad but I figured I could usually see far enough to avoid any accidents.

what pdexta said

As long as the damage isn't into the subframe mounts, I'd fix it. This could be an opportunity to do something with the front end to optimize the exchangers- if that's your thing.

I've got both passenger and driver's airbags out of my '95 just sitting around collecting dust. PM me if you want to make a deal.

I just might. We're taking it into the shop tonight to start the estimate, I haven't even opened the hood yet in case things are too broken to close again.

Hey guys, question. I have been considering a widebody kit since I'm already doing so much body work. Anyone have any thoughts on the AWR and AutoKonnexion widebody kits? I'm only thinking of them because I was considering 17" or 18" 275's but don't want to blow my money if it wrecks things with the car. Already getting a roll bar, door bars, frog arms and naca driver's headlight intake panel.

TLDR, need widebody opinions on 17/18" 275 street tires. I DD the car but want maximum lateral traction (putting ~280hp/260tq to the wheels presently).

If folks say it's really not worth it, I may just fix her and hold off for the 2016 and part out+trade my cars in for that. Tough to say without engine specifics, Mazda.

Just buy my roller, it's for sale and has a lot of parts on it and I'll let it go for cheap (compared to what I have into it)
