Yes! after talking with ATP we are going to repair the wheel blades and make sure they do not hit the housing. If they don’t AND there is no obvious imbalance, we will reassemble and send back. This turbo cannot get just the wheel replaced and the shaft will still operate well and survive just fine with a minor imbalance. So we will repair it and see what it looks like after that and go from there!

Stephanie, I really don't know if I'm comfortable with a repaired, shaved down, void of an "obvious" imbalance turbo.

I paid nearly a thousand extra dollars for the Garrett because of the exacting tolerances in the turbo, as well as for the warranty in case something like this happened. Not only will shaving down the wheel ruin those exacting tolerances and have a negative effect on boost creation, but I'm 100% positive it will void the garrett warranty completely.

I understand that a circ-clip popping out may not be covered by the Garrett warranty seeing as how the installer modified it, but I don't feel that I should have an inferior product from it since it was nothing that I had anything to do with.

At this point I would be willing to split the cost of a brand new CHRA with you guys if it meant having it in my hands in a timely fashion, the price was fairly reasonable, and I knew 100% nothing was wrong.

I called my mother to vent (some things never change as you get older I guess) and she actually yelled at me for offering to split the money, but honestly at this point I'm into the car for about $11k, and I'd be willing to throw out another couple hundred to be able to actually use my damned car soon.

I know it's really no biggie, but everyone in my local car club scoffed when I said I was going to turbo my car. As you'll find from searching my post history, I didn't know a ton about it all.

No one is really saying anything, but I think there's a general feeling of "told ya so" among everyone now that the car is back on blocks, and it pisses me off because I (thanks 1000x to this forum for the help) "did it once, did it right" and none of this goings-on is my fault _at all_.

Our club hosts two autocrosses every year, one big and one small, and the big one is on June 29th. I'm the event master for the race, and if I'm not in my own car I think I honestly will cry.

These feels, I hads them. I know exactly what you are going through and its frustrating as hell. I think BEGI will eventually get you sorted out, but it will probably leave a bad taste in your mouth no matter what. At least they are actually communicating with you.

BEGI seems makes a decent product, but god damn **** like this makes it difficult to recommend them to anyone anymore.

Although obviously, I'd prefer to not need to pay anything at all. I had nothing to do with the failure.

I just honestly am getting to the point where I'm fed up with my car being back on blocks again. Our summer only lasts 3-4 months here in Wisconsin and even if you shipped me a brand new turbo tomorrow, 1 of those 4 months would have been wasted with no Miata--because of a failure I had no real control over.

I'm having a very hard time being confrontational about all of this, and I appreciate what you guys have done for me so far, but the fact of the matter is this happened because the installer failed to seat the circ-clip properly after clocking the turbo--unless the circ-clip physically failed to do its job properly, but if that was the case then Garrett should pay for everything under warranty.

I'm the event master and social chair of our area car club. We have a massive autocross coming up on June 29th, which draws people from all around the region. I would love to be driving a BEGi powered turbo miata for the event. I don't think it's too much to ask to have a major issue resolved in a month and a half.

When I got fed up with her crap and talked to corky, things got done.

Before that, nothing happened. She's only helpful when you're just ordering stuff and everything is going good.

After that, she straight up ignores you.

I absolutely, 100%, would not even be wasting time on her at this point. I'd talk to Corky

Not trying to swing my e-peen about here, but I am the event master and social chair for our area car club. Several others from the club have wanted to turbo their miatas and have been considering buying BEGi kits after my initial success story, and as of right now if this all gets resolved timely and correctly I will still recommend BEGi and continue to give them my business. If they do not, you can bet your bottom dollar not a single one of them is going to buy from a company that put a turbo back together wrong after clocking it, and then didn't make it right after it failed.

There were a half-dozen other very tech savvy people around when the compressor housing fell off (we were at a local car show at the time). This is 0% my fault and BEGi has literal thousands of my dollars at this point. I was planning to buy my meth kit, and other future upgrades from them in order to show my appreciation with my wallet--even though there are far less expensive kits that work just as well.

We'll see what happens..

I understand your concerns, but we would not be “shaving down” the wheel. Just removing the burs and straightening the blades. I can’t tell you if it was a c clip failure or a clocking failure. All turbos get checked by Corky to make sure everything is 100% prior to shipping. So it’s a little less likely that we made the mistake. But I’ve never heard of a c clip failure due to machining and Garrett error. So, we are left with it is hurt and it needs to be fixed. I will talk to Corky and express your concerns and see what he says. Email in a few! Stephanie

Trying to remain positive, but like I said, the only reasons I paid extra for the garrett over the shanghai were the exacting tolerances and the warranty. Neither of which will remain in tact if the fins are cleaned up and straightened.

Sorry, I know emails suck, but I'm not really able to call during work hours. I get done at 3:30 cst and if we haven't figured something out via email by then I will call and chat.

When I spoke with corky on the phone his exact words were "We beat up our installer and we buried him on Friday, so this won't ever happen again. At least, it won't happen in your lifetime."

In my opinion that is an explicit admission of fault, and the fact that they're doing anything about it at all is an implied admission of fault.

I'm really just straight up sick of this whole situation at this point. The absolute worst part is, wrenching on my car and driving my car are my two biggest stress relievers.. I obviously cant drive it, and I don't have any parts to wrench on, and my garage is probably the most depressing place in the world to me right now and the last thing I want to do is go out there and tinker with **** that doesn't involve getting my car back on the road again.

Ok, I'm late to the game but seriously, WTF! I wouldn't suggested to just take the CHRA off so you don't have to deal with taking the hot side off. But again, all they need to replace is the CHRA and possibly the compressor cover (that one can be polished and won't make any difference. WTF!!!

Yeah, have had to do that a few times on my previous car (protege, FWD) and it's a pain in the butt to take the turbo off with my 3" DP so had to do that.
