In your shoes I would tell BEGI to send me a new CHRA. They are welcome to keep the "repaired" unit for another project. Nothing about "polishing" and new compressor wheel would make me feel as good as new.

You can buy a lot of CHRAs with the yearly salary of a PR rep required to help a company recover from stories like this. Too bad they aren't BBB accredited.

I lol'd IRL @ "FM cured IBS".

I just hope they don't try to pass this off to another customer as a new turbo if they eventually send you a different one... I am still waiting for my turbo to show up!

I really do hope the resolution is quick and they do the right thing. At this point just the fact that it is taking so long should net you an another apology from them. They are adding insult to injury.

FM occasionally screws up too, ran into an issue with my latest order yesterday . It was fixed by noon today. Screw ups happen . I prefer to to judge a company/person by how they deal with the screw up.

Ironically, I believe BW sent him not one, but two new turbos.

Well to be fair, Soviet did have 2 EFR's fall apart on him in exactly the same way.

mlev 06-05-2014 08:16 AM

Them tags... ><

Ok, sorry about the delayed response, I spent last night pulling my roll bar and sold it (P.O. had a hard dog hard core double diagonal with harness bar, its massive and weighs a metric fuckton, so I sold it to a buddy who tracks his car (which I dont) and I'm putting an M2 sport in it--which is what I had in my NA).

---

Spoke with Corky on the phone for a good 20 minutes or so. He said that first of all, he doesn't think this is in any way shape or form my fault or anything I had control over. He can't imagine any reason why anyone would intentionally do something to cause their turbo to fall apart and spend a month without the car. He's not positive what happened, but he thinks it's most likely that the installer did not seat the circlip correctly. He takes fault and responsibility.

He said that while my offer to pay half was very generous, he doesn't feel that it's my responsibility at all, and doesn't feel that I should have to do that.

Finally we spoke at length about what it would actually mean for the turbo if it got cleaned up. He said that he has seen turbos have the veins cleaned up before with very good results, and they were far worse than mine. He also said that he totally understands my discomfort with having the turbo cleaned up and repaired, and thinks it's understandable that I would want a new CHRA--although he wouldn't offer the repair if he didn't think it was a good idea, and he will personally warranty/guarantee the work if the thing grenades.

---

His proposal was this: he will personally spend some time with the turbo over the next couple days, clean up the burrs, take many careful measurements of all the veins, check their length, thickness, etc, and check it for balance. He will then send all of those measurements and everything to me to look over (fuckifiknow what I'm doing with them)

If he isn't 100% confident that the turbo is good to go and he wouldn't feel good about putting it on his own car, we'll scrap it.

If he's 100% sure it will be ready to rock, and I'm okay with that based on the numbers he sent me, then they'll ship it back to me and I can slap 'er in and go make turbo noises.

If he is 100% sure that the turbo would be ready to rock, but I'm still not comfy with the idea, then he will keep it and use it for another project. (he asked which turbo I had and when I told him 2554 he said "oh shoot, I guess it's just too small for me to really use then..." heheh)

He said he's usually in the office on Saturdays but doesn't like to answer the phone. But he took down my number and said he would give me a call Saturday, or Monday at the absolute latest since it won't get shipped out until then anyways...

So either way, I guess I'll have resolution by Monday.

Feeling good.

Vlad, where's my damned midpipe? You don't want to be known as the seller-slower-than-begi, do you? ;)

carnut169 06-05-2014 09:02 AM

I'd just tell him to send the new replacement now... The repaired bits can be sold as such in a discounted kit. The results may be acceptable, but you paid for a new kit and this one will not work as new... If the thing has repaired vanes I would expect it to effect performance even if just slightly.
That, and you've waited long enough.

It's really not funny... You paid and got a product they screwed up. Now your without a car, wrenching twice, more time wasted with emails/ phone calls/ forum posts- f that. A new turbo should have been in a box the day after receiving your f'd one. Period.

mlev 06-05-2014 09:14 AM

Yeah, I was a bit hesitant even right after talking to him, and the more I thought about it, the less warm-and-fuzzy I felt. They don't even have a balance machine in house, so it would all be based on caliper measurements, and while I'm sure Corky does great work, and he's probably forgotten more about turbos than I could ever hope to learn in my lifetime, we're planning to roadtrip from WI to CA in this car for miatae at mazda raceway (that'll be a fun trip on race suspension..) and I honestly don't think I'd even be able to enjoy the trip because I'll just be worried something like this will happen again.

carnut169 06-05-2014 09:38 AM

Just call him and ask for the replacement to be sent today... You'd have it Monday, install over the week and have another week or so to test for your event.

18psi 06-05-2014 09:43 AM

You're either gonna get a tracking number or a refund today

mlev 06-05-2014 09:48 AM

Yeah, sorry, to be clear just before my post above I sent them a message telling them I wanted a new CHRA. I am unable to call during work hours, but they (usually) seem to respond to emails fairly well.

Vlad, I am just giving you shit. I hope for tracking number, as my current midpipe is gone and your deal was a killer one that I'm not sure what I'll do without, but I understand if you can't make it work and I'll shop around for an enthuza or something like that.

EDIT: Unless you were referring to begi, in which case, please don't kill anyone.

18psi 06-05-2014 09:52 AM

haha no worries. I just don't want to hang on to your money any more if I can't ship the stupid thing. and its not that I can't, its just stupid stuff constantly getting in the way and not being able to get to the post office on time. My name aint Stephanie, I'll actually communicate with you :D

Tracking number almost for sure later today

mlev 06-05-2014 09:57 AM

Yeah, I totally get that. My very favorite thing about getting done at 3:30 with work every day. Plenty of time to drop stuff off at the post office. And call BEGi during business hours. ;)

So it ships tomorrow?

mlev 06-05-2014 10:24 AM

To be clear, he is referring to the midpipe I purchased from him, not my turbo.
