Front Trans Seal - Can I burn it out?
 

My front trans seal is like glued into the housing. It's literally tearing out in pieces. I was going to try to get it out with a scraper, but I"m worried about gouging the housing...

Any reason I can't just melt it out with a torch?

Well, hopefully there's not a reason, cuz I just torched the shit out of it and it was super effective.

If anyone else is in this position, you can also buy this trans piece brand new for around $50-$70 or from partsgroup, etc, if you screw up seal removal.

Yeah I'd be worried about warping the aluminium. I guess you'll find out though.

Yeah, that was my concern. New seal seams to have gone in fine, and it bolted up without issues, so I don't think I did any real damage. Worst case, I'll just have to pull the trans again and shell out money on a new one, which was my next step anyway. Best case I saved $60.
