Fuel filter fail
 

I had some days off of work and went out of town to my cousins house and brought along some maintenance items. One of these items was a new fuel filter. Yesterday my alternator belt decided to disappear and I overheated my car. It took me 4 hours to replace both accessory belts and then I decided to tackle the fuel filter while the car was still in the air. I failed miserably. I got soaked with gas, the ground got soaked and I could only get off one connector on the old filter. I then googled the procedure and found out I should have gotten new disconnect clips and blah blah blah. Can you guys tell me how to do it right?

What kind of car is it? Year?
Color?

Some say worm gear clamps are dumb.

Get the badass t-bolt clamps. Just don't go to any local store to buy them because people who work in the "fastener" business are complete fucking morons and will think your an idiot looking for something that doesn't exist. I doubt they even make them small enough, so you'll have to use some type of spacer. It will be a really janky stupid setup but it will work with the t-bolt clamps. it wont

But don't come to us looking for help finding t-bolt clamps, none of us are worthy of using them, well except for maybe hustler, and 18psi. But they wouldn't tell you anyway.

Oh and lube, you're going to need a bunch of it. Get that shaft all nice and lubed up nice like so the rubber bit slides right over like it wasn't your first time.

NB's don't use worm clamps. Pick up the correct size fuel line disconnect tool from your local auto parts store. Can't remember the size, but mine is blue, i think they are color coded. Put the tool on the line and slide it under the connector, then pull both off together. no need to buy new clips of you use the proper tool instead of screwdrivers.

Cut all of it.





Is someone really having trouble with a filter? I thought this guy was trolling.

I use the spring style camps (NA) and have never had a leak. It's not like the fuel system sees enough pressure to need special clamps. BTW, I have the Walbro 90lph HP pump, and still no problems.

Replace hoses if they are hard or cracked. That's the source of most issues.

Jeez.. I've replaced both belts and the alternator on the side of the road with inadequate tools in just under an hour. Practice makes perfect I guess.

I am incredibly incompetent at anything mechanical so I am not trolling. How in the world did you replace both belts on the side of the road? I pulled the plastic undertray to get to that damn bolt on the back of the alternator.

back? you mean on the side? And loosen the bottom one? its just 2 tensioners dude, you literally need only 3 sockets to do everything

I followed what the FM book said to do, which is to loosen the pivot bolt on the rear of the alternator. Apparently that was not the way everyone else does it.
