Fuel pump
What fuel pump is everyone running? I'm looking at either the Deatschworks or AEM but I don't see a direct replacement option for the AEM.

Just picked up a walbro 255 today off amazon for 100$, 2 day shipping and all my fueling is settled, i just did a dive on this and youll get lots of opinions, and “data” on things dying prematurely, overpowering stock regulators. Everything usually has to be taken with a grain of salt. Will let you know how the 255 holds up.

I ran a 255 in my 87 and 89 Supras with no issue. That was the one to buy back in the day, it's good to see they're still holding up.
|
It's still the one I like to run. And it's true, you'll see ~35psi at idle with a stock pump, and the 255 will be ~45 until you put some load on it, but I've found it easy enough to tune out. Idle just needs less VE. I'm reading about a lot of people having starvation issues with DW pumps and low fuel levels, dunno if that's your plan.

I installed a DW100 when I replaced my roof, because I was there. There's no way it'll support my planned engine (6d block/4w head with a t3 and ID1050s) so I'm looking for more flow. I'll be running a Haltech so tuning won't be an issue

I’ve been running a Walbro 255 for a few years with nigh 300whp on the K24, surely different needs than a turbo BP, but it’s been very dependable and essentially invisible, as a fuel pump should be. It is noticeably louder than a stock pump. I preemptively upgrade the wiring during the K swap (both in-tank and wiring to the bulkhead connector) and set up a new fuel pump relay near the battery. The pump wiring in most old Japanese cars is marginal for anything beyond a stock pump.
Also yes, the DW and other turbine style pumps seem to have issues with fuel starve at lower fuel levels, while the Walbro is a positive displacement pump like the stock unit. haven’t heard of anyone having starvation issues with a PD pump and correct fuel hanger/sock setup. |
Been running a Walbro 255 in my 1.6 L Miata engined turbo Ford Ice Racer for 15 or 20 years now, and another in my 1.8 L turbo Miata;both race cars. One failed when I ran the tank dry. But, otherwise they work great and keep up with any demand under 250 hp for sure.

I'm aiming for 300whp with (hopefully) 400 on a scramble boost function

Mint. Thank you for the input. What can't this pump do?
