Godspeed Rad with Slim Fans/ FCM Coilovers/ DIY 3" Exhaust
So after I got my car back home , after grenading the factory radiator, I went ahead and put the car on stands as I was expecting my FCM coilovers within a week or so. While I was at it, I jumped on the Godspeed bandwagon and got some slim fans along with it. Shaikh got busy, and didn't get the coilovers sent as soon as we had expected, so I decided to go ahead and make a new 3" exhaust since I had it in the air anyway and had some time. It had been on the to do list for a little while.
So here we go.. Here is how it all started.. http://i40.tinypic.com/2rep8xy.jpg You can see my cat delete, FM 2.5" Turbo midpipe and a turndown I made for it (just for fun) next to the 3" stainless I bought. Still in the development stages at this point. (FM Turbo Exhaust will be for sale shortly if anyone is looking for one) http://i40.tinypic.com/2n16jrd.jpg A couple of pics of it just tacked together. http://i40.tinypic.com/9vh0ly.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/o79jye.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2u6movk.jpg Finishing up all the welds. http://i41.tinypic.com/jl2auu.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/10roghk.jpg Here are a couple of the welds themselves. I'm not great with the camera, but you get the idea. http://i42.tinypic.com/2q33trc.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/16quxh.jpg I'll get some more pics up of the rest of it as i get some more time. -Michael- |

Very impressive welding.
I always wondered one thing. How do people who tig get perfectly continuous welds with one point where the weld starts/stops? You gotta turn the pipe somehow while you weld, how? |

Id like to learn to weld period.
I see these guys doing better-than-factory looking stuff in their garage with TIG and it just makes me want to cry. |

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I got lucky and had a close friend buy a TIG. So I taught myself and get to use it once in a while when I have a project.
Mania - I'll certainly give you a PM. It will be for the whole exhaust including the muffler, if that matters to you or not. And on with the pictures! Teardown. http://i40.tinypic.com/2dgruph.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2j5yljl.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/t0lxdg.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/155oq3q.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/10ml91u.jpg Oops.. Still don't know how this one happened.. Somehow sheared all four bolts at the recent autox http://i44.tinypic.com/2ch00i9.jpg Godspeed.. http://i41.tinypic.com/e63xaf.jpg |
Tig is awesome stuff, but it does heat metal alot more than mig so you gotta make sure you keep warping under control.
|
Very nice.
As long as that turn down is included :) Are you planning on running a muffler on it? I didn't see if you had mentioned that or not...if so what? |
I'm going to run it without a muffler to begin with. It wasn't too much with the turndown, and I would expect it to be similar with the 3". If it starts to irritate me I will probably throw a resonator or a small muffler on it. Welcome to suggestions.

|
Damn you!! I WISH I COULD WELD PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!
|
On second though...you want to start making that to sell? :)
Found a video of your car with the FM exhaust from a while back on youtube...def post the way this one sounds please. |
Well I got the exhaust all finished tonight. Finally put the wheels back on it and this weekend I'm gonna start it up and fill it up with coolant. I haven't driven it in damn near a month now and its getting to me..
Here are some pics of the new coilovers. http://i42.tinypic.com/2zg9dgg.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/112c4jp.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/2d6kuix.jpg And a pic of what came out (also will be for sale soon) Koni Yellow's and RB Street Springs http://i39.tinypic.com/2moy446.jpg Pics and maybe a vid soon to come. Got it all put back together today. I think I have finally convinced myself I'm gonna have to run a muffler. It's just too loud to drive on the street. I'm thinking about running one of the round Magnaflows. Does anyone have any experience with them?
Here is a vid of it currently. View My Video Michael |

Well I'm still trying to decide on whether I want the 4" or 6" version. I don't want to get the 6" and it be stupid quiet. At the same time I don't want to get the 4" and it not muffle anything.. Damn these decisions..

|
Well, what part are you referring to?
Michael |
The part where it faces down...
|
I think it may just be the picture. The drain works just fine.
