Maybe, I should start off by buying a cheap stock miata and slowly go from there. yeah?

You will end up spending around 2 grand extra (bare minimum) for the same car. But you will learn in the process.

that's what i would do. find an unmolested, preferrably granny driven, low miles, 94-95 or 99-00 model. having a 96 or 97 isn't bad, as long as you get a megasquirt or hydra, then the emissions crap won't be so bad. but wait, you're in cali huh? idk what you guys have to deal with...i'd say go with OBDI car.

then work from there. if you are patient and wait for good deals on parts (locally and on here), then you can find yourself in a 230-250 whp miata for maybe under 5k.

EDIT: do a lot of research, spend your money wisely, prepare to sh*t on other "fast" cars.

CA emission laws are the most strict. Thats why i though this was an okay deal and okay car.

"okay" is correct. for another 1k though, you can get a hellish, semi-clean 1.8 miata.

you got to do that junk yo' self, and get deals on used equipment.

piece of advice: get a good running car 1.6 or 1.8, then buy parts from guys here who really know what they are talking about. especially if they are somewhat custom parts, they can give you expert insight and advice on how to go about installing stuff.

for instance...idk if turbotim is still selling his custom TT setup, but if you were to tell the dude to sell you this miata and keep all his greddy bs, cut the price in half, then get turbotim's one of a kind dual-snail kit, you'd have one bitchin' ride. absurdflow stuff is top notch. plus, it's twin-turbo. no one else has a TT miata.

Look at people's cars / build threads. Read "Maximum boost" by Corky Bell. You will see why. Also, you can collect cheap priced parts on the way (if your on a budget).
But in the end, you will end up spending more than you originally intended.

OMFG what the hell are these newbs doing steering other newbs around.
Caid this is a hell of a deal on a miata esp one wich has been turboed but

Do a goddamn compression test on the motor
Get your *** on the internet and look into what a greddy setup looks like installed.
Do some research so that you can identify a 1.8 dif by sight, if he did not upgrade to one then his lsd is worthless (cause the gears on the 1.6 diff breack alot.)

OK with that covered i suggest somemore questions to add to your homework.

Is this car running a boost gauge of some sort what psi/kpa/bar is it putting out at wot when you have it at the top of say 2nd or 3rd gear?

Is the oil pressure needle going haywire at full throttle? (If this happens his **** is gonna breack and fast get out of boost and tell him thx for his time but his detonation issues are more than you wanna get into.)

Did he actualy tap the pan or did he do the ghetto greddy run your oil return on the otherside of the car BS?

Answer these questions to your self and after your research is done. You will be able to make a well informed decision. These newbs mean well but honestly they rely way to much on the recently made cheap and obtainable technologys out there to idiot proof ****. And us vetrans know that **** works just fine the old fashioned way.

Also a personal question what is you automotive experience in general? We have a lot of knowledge and wisdom here but it takes abit of a hands on individual for it all to sink in most of the time. And if another ******* bandwagon jumper tells me how much better a god damn 1.8 is compared to my 1.6 ima rip there hair out gouge there eyes and skull **** em. Under 400 someodd hp you would be hard pressed to see real limitation with a 1.6/a 1.8 in a properly designed setup so get over yourselves.

go warp your head agian newb. Of course it doesnt he needs and wants a carb oe therefore its a rrfpr setup running 5 psi with 5 degs base timming. If he gets a IC etc he will not be carb oe. And why the hell would he want a IC i sure as hell dont at 18 psi ill be damned if i strap one of those ricey heatsinks infront of my rad. Water methanol injection is what real men run.

Oh and to the OP dealer sticker on the sideveiw mirror was about 300 bucks last i checked if i where you i would get a cheapo set from autozone etc to fix that.

running meth without an intercooler is the same thing as spraying nitrous into a cavalier.
