raced a damn quick legacy
He said he had a uppipe, downpipe, intake, exhaust (sounded good), and accessport. He had about 2.5 lengths on me through 5th gear, and he got the jump. I was surprized, as was he. They were very cool guys, his passenger has a sti that hes putting a huge turbo on haha. Was an exciting hour of tuneing haha!

nice.......he's basically a shitty stage 2 then. intake's for our cars are useless (which can make the tune shitty if its an ots flash), and on the legacy engine (which is similar to the sti) there is no need for an aftermarket uppipe as they are catless unlike the pre 06 wrx's which have a shitty cat....but whatever, it doesnt make much difference. congrats

My ex just bought one today. I told her if she likes Legacy's, to please do me a favor and get the GT....she did! I cant wait to drive it!
05' with 28k miles for $18,000 @ a Mercedes dealer, so you know older folk probably owned it. I told her it needs a boost gauge and BOV right away! Hopefully she mods it, I don't want to see it go to waste.

Bad influence? lol. She called me yesterday disappointed that she couldn't hear anything. That the turbo didn't sound like she thought it would. Its not my car, but whatever she wants, I'll help do it.

+1 on the spec B's. I was reading up on them and told her that would be a bit much for her needs.

well, JT is right putting an atmospheric bov on our cars is a VERY bad idea.......hell, im on a 20g turbo with well over 350whp and still on the stock bypass valve.....the atmospheric ones are complete ****, recirculating ones are the only ones to get. the atmospherics make the car backfire alot, let out metered air making the car run lean for a few seconds between shifts, as well as sometimes cause the ecu to pull a couple degrees of timing due to it not knowing wtf just happened when loosing its metered air. it is not a miata, it is a bit more complicated, my honest advise to you: whatever she does, DO NOT let her get a bov on it. she will regret it
as far as mods for that car, i would suggest a nice turbo back exhaust and a tune, the power increase will be crazy for just those two mods. a tactrix cable is 80 bux new, and an xpt stg2 map is 50 bux from the osecuroms website. using a laptop (its really easy) flash the map onto the car after installing the turboback exhaust, and bam: you have a very safe (conservative of course) stage 2 legacy. you'd be putting down anywhere between 250-270whp 280-300wtq and the cars power curve will be so much better it will put a grin on her/your faces

well i'm the ex who got the legacy, and thanks for all your input! i will be sure to check the subaru forum. i plan on a few upgrades, nothing crazy, and vash won't have much say in them - he was already a bad enough influence in me going with the GT
and for the record, the car was a trade-in, for a nice couple who chose to go with a c class

My friends had a Turbo-XS VTA on his 04 wrx for like 3 years now. Every once in a blue moon it'll pop, but doesn't seem to have any negative effects. Hes still running stock turbo, HKS up-pipe, downpipe, test pipe and full 3" exhaust with a moderate tune. He calls it "stage 2" and for not having the boost level altered its a factory freak! Last week he pulled on a 13.1 second STi "clone."
Fun car.
My Mazdaspeed6 on the other hand I have a Greddy Type-S that I ran VTA for a little while, and 3" catback no muffler. That pops a LOT driving around and the spool is totally murdered running VTA. Recirc it works perfectly, and I replaced the factory piece of **** plastic valve because it leaked badly and cause some massive boost creep..

My HKS SSQV had me backfiring all the time. I would seriously shoot major flames when I hit the rev limiter by accident. Occasionally on the highway at night, I would notice the road light up behind me with a boom. Gave me wayy to much attention.
I did some reading on the subie forum. I also linked it to her so she could learn a little about her car. ****, I'd pay the ******* $100 to reflash the ECU and do the car some good. As it is, I think its too fast for her....lol.

Actually I don't mean to nitpick.. but technically releasing metered air isn't making the car lean, it actually makes it rich. Theres still fuel injected for the metered air, but the air goes away... Which is what causes the "backfire" which is nothing more than unburnt fuel piled up and igniting.
Great Legacy forum;
