Great deal on track tires!

I"ve been looking for new tires for HPDE. There is a pretty good deal on the old Hankook Z211's at Frisby - 205/50/15's for $80 + $13.50 shipping. Then I found this...

http://tamparally.com/component/page...art/Itemid,30/

The newer Hankook Z214 in 205/50/15 for only $79 and shipping was only $36 for the whole set. Hankook has just changed compounds slightly from C30, C50, C70 to C31, C51, C71 designations. These look to be a great tire for track days! In 205-50-15 they only have the harder compound left but this is great in hotter climates and should wear better. One or two laps at 75% should put enough heat in them to run full out the rest of a 30 minute session without getting greasy by the end.

I'm not affiliated in any way. Just found what I thought was a great deal on very good track day tires and wanted to pass it on! Can you feel the love?:giggle:

hmmmm 235/620-17.....

now if i could find those for $79 lol

but they do have the F200 215/615r17 in C70 for $117 each..hmmmmm those would be great for auto-x.

Have some Z211 in 235-40-17 C50 for HPDEs and they are WONDERFUL.

Got RA-1's myself. Those things should stick like glue.

I also hear good things about Edge Racing's tire/wheel combo's. They're all listed in Grassroots motorsports magazine.

I have nt-01's, but I'm getting in on a set of those r-comps.

Doppelgänger 04-09-2008 04:32 PM

how do you like the NT-01's? I was thinking of using them for my next set of track tires.... but im afraid i've been spoiled by the Z211's lol (40 tread wear)

they last longer than ra-1's because the tread blocks are fatter so you don't have to shave them from the start. Aside from that, the tires are the same. I'll always buy those over ra-1's just so I don't have to pay extra to shave.

Don't look at treadwear, its not a measurement with any regulation behind it.

Had to edit the post. Guy is shipping me tires for the $24 but at that he's losing money. He's bumped shipping up the $9 a tire to cover the difference - $36 a set. Still a good deal on shipping!

Hustler, I would think these Hankook Z214's would be perfect for you to try. Affordable and good in the heat!

UrbanSoot 04-09-2008 07:03 PM

i want to try me some yoko r888 in 225/50/15 on 15x7 rims.

cueball1 04-09-2008 07:42 PM

That's Toyo R888's. Yoko's are Advan's. The Toyo's are reported to be the same casing and compound as the Nitto NT-01 but with it's own tread pattern.

For the track you are likely better off using that Z214. If you want an R-Compound tire to use on the street you might take a look at the closeout Hankook Z211's. They have a more streetable tread design like the RA-1's. Frisby race tire has those for $80. With the R888 around $140 the Z211 hankooks are sure worth looking at for more than 40% less!

Arkmage 04-10-2008 06:50 PM

wow... R-comps are actually more expensive in R14 than R15... that's fucked up.

cueball1 04-11-2008 12:25 AM

Yeah that sucks. I found another site selling these closeouts that listed how many Hankook has in stock. They've got a butt load of the 205-50-15's left. Also I think the harder c30 compound isn't as popular as the soft C70 the auto xers like. They're priced by how bad they need to sell them out, not what they cost. Good deal if you can use the 205 15's in a hard compound!

I just spent something like two hours researching this and consensus seems to be that the c30 compound is roughly equivalent to Toyo RA-1 compound.

Seem like they'll be fine for HPDEs. I think I'd rather have these get stickier as they warm up than have my Azenis start getting greasey.

don't know bout u guys but i don't like anything the koreans have ever made :dunno:

other than bee bim bop

cueball1 04-11-2008 08:55 PM

The Hankook RS-2 is a great high performance tire. The z211 was a spec tire in several racing series. The Z214 is it's replacement. Supposed to be a very good race tire. The C30 compound is supposed to wear extremely well it just takes a little more heat to get going.

For under $100 it's worth taking a chance on and from research it's not really taking a chance. Most people seem to like them.

cueball1 04-23-2008 12:43 PM

Anybody else jump on these?!? Just got my set today. What a great deal on a good quality R-comp tire. For you folks that want to run a DOT R-comp on the street look at the Z211's. Much like the RA-1's for $50 less!

Now if I could just get my car back from BEGI and get out on the track.

m2cupcar 04-23-2008 01:00 PM

I'd buy 'em for a track tire. That's a deal. :bigtu: I wouldn't waste my dough on the quicker/more costly tire unless there was something (within reach) to win.

cueball1 06-11-2008 12:32 PM

Bumping this as it's track season and the deals are still out there!

Tamparally still has the z214's in a couple of Miata friendly sizes. Also check out http://frisbyracetire.com They have the z214's clearance and also the older model z211's.

Both models are great deals on full race tires at around $80! The z214 just has 2 radial grooves. The Z211 looks like the Toyo RA1. I hope other HPDE guys here are checking these out.

I got my tires but my car's still at BEGI so they haven't hit the track yet. Anyone else buy these and use them yet? Reviews?

I love's me a bargain and $80 R-compounds are certainly that.

Braineack 06-11-2008 12:40 PM

call me when it's $80 for all four....

cueball1 06-11-2008 01:26 PM

Brain,

Don't like the Kook R-comps? These are what, at least $50 cheaper than anything else out there. Would really like to hear from anyone who's tried them yet.

Braineack 06-11-2008 01:28 PM

no. i have nothing against them...im just that cheap!
