Stupid hot, at least try to find some ultra light heat insulator. Its painfully hot in a gutted front engine rwd car.

I read about some sort of space age material, as thin as tape that can be a 400 degree difference on either side of the insulation. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I bought some of that from here...

IIRC, it was $45 for a sheet of 4'X10'. I would not be surprised if it was called reflectix as someone mentioned, might be cheaper at Lowe's.

Hustler,
Spoke w/ John and we are going to add some more heat shielding in the toe area to go further to the firewall.
Mine has been in for two years and no problems. Drove to Hallett in shorts and was still able to put my hand on the tunnel.
As far as your door cards with pulls...that's very easily done and we can have fixed up in a matter of two hours. The heat shielding is the foil bubble wrap mention in a previous post purchased at Home Depot. All the seams are then covered with foil tape and then Herculiner over the entire surface. Can even be color match after this if you so desire.

Looks nice, hustler; really clean. The GRM helps too. :giggle:

Wow I love that, looks awesome with all the center crap missing.

I started pulling my interior Friday night... Carpet is out and it does get HOT in a hurry. My car is a 80% track time car so it really isn't an issue fore me, but I wouldn't be able to do it on a daily basis. I will continue yanking shit as I see fit. I wish I could pull the vents and ditch the A/C, but that is simply untolerable during the Dallas summers... I am also getting a little worried about what buyers will say when i go to sell this thing.

keep in mind that's a painted interior, looks awesome, but don't expect that kind of finish when you yank out your carpet. you could always keep the heater core and blower and hook it up to a switch, just cause the stock HVAC controls are gone doesn't mean you can't have defrost

Dallas summers are a bitch....drove mine for two years without heat or A/C....
however, the cage has now put it over the top for daily driving and it is now a dedicated track rat. Picked up a DD last week so the Miata can enjoy some rest. ;)
When doing mods to this extent, I made the decision that the car was not going to be re-sold. Easier to buy a shell and replace all the pieces if the unmentionable ever succombs to it.

I love when fagmos in bimmers say, "you'll never be able to sell it and get something better!!!"

I have been thinking about doing this too. Something really appeling with a clean striped interior, especially the doors. Since the car now will be used in Sweden, AC and PS is going anyway. But maybe I need to make my car legal on the roads first... Damn I need garage time.

944obscene 10-13-2008 12:13 PM

I did an interior "unstripping" with a friend on his FC RX7. Yeah, that was fun. He got the car as a restored flood car, so we had to re-carpet it and change out different interior parts. I'll tell you what. Before we got the carpet in, that thing was fucking HOT. I mean. It could be 65 degrees out and cruising with the windows open would still leave your legs sweaty.

I don't think I could do with a stripped interior on a street car. Not daily driving anyhow, without insulation.

majorposer 10-14-2008 11:23 PM

the 1st interior shots are amazing, some one could make a pretty penny if they were to sell a dash replacement kit like that!
