Hacked up my fenders to fit the 275’s.

Well I finally bit the bullet and hacked up my fenders to fit the 275’s.
I took the springs off and did a whole bunch of articulation studies on my car getting the clearance envelope right. Found with the 949 wheels the minimum spacer that would work was 15mm, any less and the rear hits the tire sidewall on the inside at full bump and the front has serious interference with the top of the shock attachment area. 15mm works ok in the front but still sacrifices a bit of bump travel. 20mm spacer in the front would get a tad more bump travel before the tire rubs the fender by the shock top. My big hollow RB swaybar would rub at full lock but my ISC bar has a plenty of clearance. If you space out the front much more than with a 20mm spacer then you start having serious issues with clearance to the seam weld at the back of the wheel well when turning. You wouldn’t be able to turn with 0 offset wheels the tire would hit the front and back of the wheel opening. Ideal wheel offset would be in the ET 15-20mm range for the 225/45/15 tires. Another thing I noticed is when I put my 225/50/15 V710’s on they hit the top of my fender wells centered over the tire when it is sitting on the bumpstops. Confirms my polish marks left there. Any bigger diameter would mean limiting some more bump travel or tubbing the fenders. The Autokonexion version 2 flares barely fit the tires which was what I was looking for since these will likely only be used for autocross. I didn’t want unnecessarily wide flares for my track tires or street tires. Bob |

I like your car. Thats what I think it should look like. Beeing a sports car and all. How do you like the wing? Did you mount it without the 6in extentions? If so how was it?
Have a great day, Jared |

Have a great day, Jared I wanted the wing up where it would be the most functional. Well above any turbulent separation flow coming off the back window. Anything low looks like Ricer garbage to me and likely doesn’t work well. I haven’t track tested with the wing yet but I can tell from driving some 90 mph speeping 90 degree turns near my way to work the difference the wing and the front splitter make is huge. Likely to cut some lap time off I think. The wing is a universal fit one and I mounted it to custom brackets I made that mount it to the fender in the gap between the fender and the trunk. So it is nice and solidly mounted rather than on rubbery trunk lid. I have two 2.5” risers on each side. So it is 5” lift. Also with my mounting it comes off easily and leves no visible holes in the trunk. I took it for a short drive today on the 275’s. Dam state cop stopped me for no front plate. I haven’t mounted it yet since the lip spoiler and splitter mess with how it was mounted. He asked “Are those some kind of drifting tires?” didn’t give me a ticket. Bob |
Got lucky on that one. Did you do a write up on th etrunk mounting? I would like to put a wing on one day and was thinking about getting an extra lid so that I could swap them out befor and after a track day.
Have a great day, Jared |

Car looks great, would it help to fabricate an offset upper shock mount for more clearance? |

Wow bob, you're car has really evolved this winter. Cant wait to check it out.
Have you done anything with your old hollow RB bar yet? I was planning on buying one sometime before next autox season and would happily buy yours off you at some point. Lookin great! |

Next step is spats for the front wheels and canards. I’m trying to figure out the details of how to attach canards if I do the DIY route. The spats seem pretty straight forward they but I don’t get how to attach the canards to the bumper.

Dude, twice in the last month? Is it just because of the wing/splitter/flares that they're finding a reason to pull you over or are they really cracking down around here?

The GTX doesn't have a front plate on it ether one of two of them that I have that don’t have front plates installed. The Reservation cop that stopped me used that as a reason for stopping me but I think the real reason I think is he saw me come around a sharp U corner at around 3 times the speed that most people take it even though I was not technically speeding nor could he tell how fast I was going. That GTX is fast and corners well. I won the SCCA Street Mod division for the region driving it last year.
Bob I'm obviously looking for some hope that I wont have to compete against you next season :bowrofl: |

Speaking of autox, is your miata still going to be in street mod next year or is it in a different class now with all that new stuff?
