hard to shift in/out of rev.
I just put my motor back in the 96 miata after doing a new clutch. I changed the tranni fluid (filled a little over 2 quarts) and changed the shifter fluid. It is kinda hard going into reverse now and even harder to get it out.
I'm thinking maybe the clutch is still slightly engaged, but it even is rough when the car is off and the clutch is in. Clutch is ACT HDSS... and it drives so nice :) Thanks!! |
Based on the description of your problem it sounds to me like you put a Subaru 5spd in it.
|
hahahahaha
THATS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT. all i do is work on subaru swaps up at college with my friends/roommates... i just did a swap on my brothers OBS and the trani is just SHIT. |
I had a similar problem. I did 2 things, not sure which fixed it but one did.
First, I adjusted the clutch pedal travel. Then I loosened all the bolts holding on the shifter and wiggled it a bit then tightened them all down again. Fine now. |
those were both on my check list for as soon as it stops raining. Thanks!
|
Did you disconnect ur slave? maybe air in the line?
|
+ 1 on bleeding the slave.
|
yeah i bled it pretty thoroughly. Ill try wayne's suggestions first, and if that doesnt work ill re-bleed it.
|
re-installing the shifter did not help.
I'll check the adjustment and re-bleed it tomorrow when its not raining. |
could be the infamous stuck in reverse problem in progress. Hope it isnt but could but if you can shift the other gears no problem then i would look into this.
|
I had this same problem after my ACT install, not quite as bad as you are describing. I had to adjust the clutch master push rod (lengthen it) to get proper disengagement. After that it shifted like butter.
|
adjusted the shifter so it grabs right at the top... still wont shift nice. (I re-adjusted it back to norm).
I also re-bled the clutch.. no fix. It's very driveable, but frustrating because its not as smooth as it used to be. |
I still think that it is adjustment. You have a nice, full, thick disk in there now. I would adjust again.
|
i literally made it to the point where the car would not move until the clutch is 80% up. it CANT be the adjustment.
|
Ya i'd say you need to go to m.net and read about the shifter stuck in reverse problem. Cant remember what causes it or how to fix it but it's sounding more and more like that problem.
|
eww m.net
haha ill take a look. |
Slave cylinder fixed mine.
I had this same problem with my 99`. It turned out to be a bad clutch slave cylinder.
|
its definetly not the "stuck in reverse" problem on miata.net. It doesnt get stuck or "loose its spot" or anything. its just rough getting in and out of rev.
maybe ill try to get a new slave |
Might have to bench bleed it too.

maybe ill try to get a new slave Sounds like the slave. I had similar problems and replaced my slave and it was good to go. Although last time I drove the car I do recall reverse acting a fool and shit. |
