Hey guys i bought a hardtop finally and i want to permanantly bolt it down. For now its just a daily driver with minor track days

My dilemna is whether to buy the garagestar kit, the jass kit, or make my own...

Im very handy at fabricating but not sure if the effort is worth the hassle.

Any other suggestions welcome...

I personally did not like my Jass front and side brackets. I do, however, love the rear Frankenstein bolt replacement brackets from Jass. I ended up going with the "Spec Miata" front and side brackets that 5x Racing sells and like them much better. So much easier to get on and off quickly. My car is track only with hardtop always permanently mounted, though it seems to be coming off for interior work a lot more lately...haha.

I had MiataCage brackets, could not get them to fit remotely acceptably. Switched to Garagestar, they were super easy to install.... which meant the top didn't seal worth a damn.

Switched to Jass. They kinda sucked to install, but the top seals great and is definitely not going anywhere.

The allen key hardware was kind of a pain to use as opposed to the hex head hardware with my current brackets. I also could not for the life of me to get the side brackets to line up at all and they were a pain to get on the car with bucket seats in the way using an allen wrench. The 5x brackets mount in a different spot on the sides but everything feels just as sturdy since I have the rear bolted and not using Frankenstein bolts. Fronts lined up perfectly with no problem where the Jass I had to really force the top forward to get anything to line up. The top just seems to sit in a much more natural position now where with the Jass brackets it seemed like it was under a lot of tension from being forced into place. I can now get fronts and sides off in ~15 seconds each with a single 10mm ratcheting wrench with no issues of interference with my bucket seats.

Yeah to add more about the GS brackets the ones for the front mounts worked good but the ones for the sides mounts have long slotted holes so in theory you push down on the top tighten it and it holds its spot but as soon as you let off the top it just slides up in the slotted holes and allows the top to rattle on my rollbar.

I switched back to oem side latches and they work much better because they actually pull down the top and keep it there. No rattles this way.

Finally got the 5x racing brackets in and they work like a champ! Very snug fitment! Thank you guys for everything!

Those look like the GS Snugtop brackets.

Not a snugtop! I dont even know what that is tbh. But they are 5x's hardtop brackets.

Right, but... not an oem top. Either way, those brackets are designed exactly in the way i didn't like the GS brackets. But if they work for you then that's awesome.
