Harness bolting position?

I got some new Crow Harnesses and I tried to put the mounting brackets through the same bolt as the stock belts but bolt is way too big for the hole. My question is should I drill out the hole or bolt them to a different spot?

magnamx-5 04-09-2007 07:46 PM

WTF crow?

Personally I'd be cautious about how you modify and mount the belts. If you ever expect to have them save your life some day give it some serious thought.

I mounted my harness by replacing the bolts with eye-bolts and using clip-on ends.

ohh a racing harness. yeah the stock mounting points should work once drilled out or use the stockish bolts. nothing esle up there is gonna be strong enough to be usefull for you.

You should get a rollbar with an actual harness bar so that your harness are actually safe to use.

that7guy 04-09-2007 09:33 PM

I have a rollbar with the harness bar. Im talking about the lap belts

cjernigan 04-09-2007 09:35 PM

Eyebolts that fit in the stock threaded hole would be a good way to do it then. The stock threaded location is strong as hell. Glad to hear you have a bar, i'm jealous because i don't.

im kind of in the same situation. i bought a set of crow harnesses. and i have the wrap around option for the top belts. and the lap belts have a plate with a hole in them. so i just used the existing bolts for the seat belt.

I want a race harness ... can the 1.8 bar behind the seats be used for that purpose? I always wondered this and thought maybe they put it there partially for that purpose.

hard to say, if you don't have the harness sholder straps attached at the right angle it can kill you.

really? how much tolerance is there to this angle, ive not heard of this. You want it mounted around shoulder height right?

I have heard within 15° of horizontal, I have heard that anything below horizontal is unacceptable. I would keep it within 15° of horizontal, but never below. Too much angle = spinal compression, too little = submarining.

And no, the stock 1.8 bar behind the seats CANNOT be used as a harness mounting point.

thanks

That bar will work as long as you are using the harness to hold you in the seat rather than save your life. At school we ran autoX with very lax rules... so I used a 5 point to hold me in the seat better... nothing to hit, and no rules to break so the bar was sufficient for the task.

i like my big fat harness bar on my roll bar :gay:

used the oem locations for the lap belts, and need to drill a hole under the driver seat for my ball breaker.

Its so nice to have the harness so you only use energy turning the wheel and pressing pedals...you don't have to hold yourself in the seat.

What's even better is a TURBO! Then the acceleration holds you in the seat.

watch my track videos....i wasn't wearing my harness cause I only have one (instructor has to have same safety equip.)....at +110mph I'm bouncing all over the fucking seat and in the corners I'm falling out of the damn seat.

and that's with the belt locked tight...I use the "pull fast" trick.
