Having hard time shifting to Reverse... halp!!
Had a track day this past Saturday and everything seemed to go pretty well. NO bad misshifts, but shifting got a little notchy towards the end of the day, but 1-5 is still pretty easy, but reverse is a bitch to get into now. I chnaged the transmission fluid less than 2k miles ago with the motorcraft stuff from dealership...
Any ideas? Only fluid I haven't changed is the shifter... Thanks... |
maybe throwout bearing failiure. i know it starts getting hard to shift into gears when its on its way out but its also accompanied with some cool noises.

Will it engage with the engine off? Can you pump-up the clutch pedal and get it to engage? |
1st though 5th seem to shift fine, it's just reverse that's a bitch. I think it's the same way with the car off...

Amen to this thread. Reverse lights come on but won't back up. Sometimes I have to go from neutral to reverse 2-3 times before it will actually go into reverse

Trans Lube
I know it's on the "other" forum, but... You might take a look at this thread about trans lube.

The reverse switch on the rear of the transmission also has a nasty habit of grabbing on to a lever and not letting it out. Back off this switch and see if it gets any easier.

reverse
i do a lot of track days and tried the ford stuff as well. During the second event started having troubles 5 to 4th. Reverse was near impossible by end of event. Drained ford oil and put in Royal purple and pretty much solved the problem. I originally tried the expensive ford oil because of shifting problems, then realized it was the voo doo short shift knob. My reverse is still a little problem but the change in fluid was an imediate difference
