I guess im a little spoiled. I just dislike having the steering wheel so close to my legs. If it is right or not, i dont know. It just seems like while maneuvering i seem to always hit my legs.

I have a 2001 miata. Stock steering wheel, stock door cards and handles, stock leather seats, no adjustments made to the e-brake handle, and I have zero issues fitting. What I think you need to change is your "mental space" Your mind says "you are cramped" when, in fact, you have ample room. You are just not used to resting your legs and arms in conveniently close positions. This is distinctly different than not having enough room

There is an extra click on the seat rail if you push the seat back while bracing your foot on the foot rest, that's the position I use while driving with shoes on. Shoes off, i sit a click forwards.

There is a similarly achievable extra click on the seat back (reclining) just hold the adjusting lever and push your upper body against the seat.

I guess what Im going to try and do is take everyones suggestions and Jump back in some Miatas and see how I feel. Seems like perhaps Im used to so much room that when I sat in the little sports car, I hated it. Im going to give it another try with a few more cars before I jump the gun and abort mission on the build

keep the BRZ, sell the miata. You're not cut out for this miata lyfe. I'm 6'2", 180lbs and I fit in my miata comfortably, but doing so took work, including research for information that is readily available within the first page of google search results.

See but there is the issue. I mean after a while if it takes new seats, rails, steeringwheel, etc. to make it comfortable... That all adds up. It becomes very expensive. Im sure i can get it comfortable... I just dont want to spend $2000 doing so.

To reiterate my above post-

I'm on Miata #3, I have never installed an aftermarket steering wheel or modified a seat or door panel. I'm 6'1", and was 220 lbs 18 months ago.

Honestly can't understand what the fuss is about. Yes, the Miata is a small car. You don't get into it in the way you get into a Lincoln Town Car, you put it on in the way you do a condom.

I'm 6-1, 225. I fit. I did foamectomy my seats (2002's, which I have read give more room than the earlier seats do). I also raised the steering column about 1/2", after reading how someone else did it on Miata.net. Not too
difficult, and it made it possible to fit my knee between the steering wheel and door handle. I can also now see all my gauges too. My hair touches the inside of the soft top when I need a haircut, Lol.

I drove from central Florida to MATG 2016 last year, and I'm going again this year. Not the most comfortable, but I do it just fine.

6', 235, I've only done a foamectomy and pulled the sunvisors off. It's decent enough. Could it be better? Sure, but there's enough space. I haven't even done anything like a smaller steering wheel or deleting arm rests or the console (and probably won't, though I might try it to see how it feels)

I definitely agree with the foamectomy! It's cheap and relatively easy and a great place to start.

alsmedic 07-16-2017 10:48 PM

I forgot- I did delete the drivers side sun visor too
