If you really want to do the math, I can help you with the formulas but it really can't be done without knowing desired operating parameters of the engine (street vs. race, target RPM range (5,000-8,000 RPM drag motor vs. 3,000-7,000 RPM road racer) and how much boost (airflow) you plan on running.

If you want a good ballpark for a custom IM, search for the buildup Splittime did on his 1.6. It's on this site, he and buddy fabbed up a really nice custom IM for his 1.6. I've seen the car, the IM looks great (Dave, ya still owe me a ride if you're reading this!) I think he did a little research on what would work best for his road racing/autox needs. As I recall, he's running around 1 bar boost with a GT BB turbo (boost limited by stock shortblock) with the custom IM, big TB, huge intercooler, MS, and a full 3" exhaust.

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10202 this is basically what is going on with the car. It's for road race/drift.

And thanks for all the help.
