dude... the car comes with them, so if you have a problem with your light motors you can still get home at night.

He's looking for a controller that pops the lights up 1/2 way.

or you could wire a pot into the motors power wire...

You can download the installation instructions from this webstie. The 1.6 and 1.8 instructions are different but shouldn't be. Also, seems to me that these units are just simple timer relays that they charge you $80 for. You can get a simple timer relay from mcmaster for 1/4 the price and make this thing yourself.

You have this mod, don't you Bruce?

Yeah, but I was stupid enough to buy it at full price before researching how to DIY.:ugh2:

turbopezz 08-25-2006 04:08 PM

I agree, but I could be wrong.

I just bought a used controller from one of the local guys. I thought about doing the cheap mod, but when this came up... I figured I'd jump on it.

It's not much more than the box + wires. The box is the "timer to control" how long the "down stays on", I believe.... Definately going to be good for autox with this thing wired in.... <G>

For those who don't want it to be perfect, I say do the cheap fuse mod. Until this came up, I figured I'd do that.... <G>

Dave,

You can't just "wire a pot to it". For a pot to control 0-100% open it would need a pwm 4-quadrant motor driver and some sort of feedback to know the motor position. The easiest way is to pull the fuse, for the light motors, and wire a switch (and another fuse) where the original fuse was. When they get where you want them hit the switch. This is the fast/cheap/easy route so no flaming! :) You can also connect a switch inline with a wire from the button on the center dash but I don't know which wire off the top of my head. Give me awhile and if I remember I'll post the schematic.

I DO

Now I see the picture. Weird. I didn't see it the first time. Yes that's how you stop them. You can also wire a momentary pushbutton switch parallel with the other switch to -bump- them up or down. Hopefully the motors run smoothly and the same speed or you'll be winking. Hmm, here's a thought. A spdt switch that clicks on one way and momentary the other way. center off. leave it clicked up (on) for normal use, middle to stop them, down (momentray) to bump them. maybe?
