Hi guys; I've been searching both here and at m.net but can't find a solution. Here's the deal: I just replaced the Cam seal and ring and I found an oil leak coming from the back of my valve cover.

I'd like to know if someone has a suggestion about that leak. I just bought a new valve cover gasket which I'm going to have installed this afternoon but I'd like to get additional input as to why that's happening.

Since I first bought my car this is going to be the 3rd valve cover gasket I install and the oil leaks are always on the same location; around the cam.

Any suggestions?

are you using black silicone on the corners of the caps that protrude up?

When installing the valve cover gasket use RTV sealant where the cam bearing caps and CAS meet the cylinderhead.

where the cams protrude at the front and where the CAS protrudes at the back, these are the places to apply RTV

I guess you're talking about the caps on the valve cover. We used silicone all around but I'll doublecheck

Hey Scott. While we are on the topic of valve cover gaskets and rafas question is resolved. I have a 99 Altima, just like yours. Have a leaky valve cover. I bought a full gasket set. Do I also have to apply sealant in certain places just like this thread is indicating?

I cant tell from the picture where the hell the sealant is supposed to go. If I could see on the picture scott posted id be able to translate that into my car when I do it.

You put sealant in the corners where the front cam caps meet the head and where the cas locking cap meets the head. A total of 6 corners.

I've always used the high temp silicone and used the m.net sequence when putting the valve cover back on. Never had any problems.
