Hey guys, i searched and found Whaams post on ebay fans... i also saw flyin miatas fans.... anyone else have any luck with fans... good ones preferably cheap? i dont want to spend 428 like on flyin miata...
links would be great!!! i searched google, but came up as a negative

What are you trying to accomplish? The point of the ones Whaaamx5 posted from ebay is that they are slim fans that are cheap easy replacements for the stock fans. You could just build a better shroud for your stock fans and seal the ducting off so that no air passes unless it goes through the radiator.

i already have built a shroud... well my dad kind of "made" a shroud that sealed the fans... all air has to pass through them. and they are running in parrallel

Then look into some larger Spal fan's or something similar. Search around summit racing or jegs to see what you can find. m2cupcar is running one large Spal i believe which is sort of a unique setup on a miata, then again he has a completely different motor. Anyway, you can do a few searches and find info on it.

A shroud that makes all the air pass through the fans will limit your cooling at speed. You want as much air available to as much surface of the radiator as possible for decent cooling. The fans are for low speed and traffic. Try changing your shrouding to direct all the air to the radiator from the front and remove any shrouds in the back.

When is the car getting hot (what kind of driving)?

There's a lot to the cooling system and big fan(s) are often a band aid that hides the real problem. I don't recommend the giant Spal 16" only because it's got a 21amp motor and the start up load is brutal. Two smaller fans are better IMO.

The car overheats when im at the track. im doing a coolant re-route and bringing the return line to the intake side. havent decided weather or not to includ the heater core in the loop.

I have already built an air duct for the front. since i dont do any sort of driving in traffic should i just remove my fans?

I have the AWR fans and aluminum shroud, they seem to work wonderfully

so im confused, do i want to make all the air coming out of the rad go through the fans or should i leave them open and rely on the fans mounted to the rad to pull air?

Yes leave it open fans only work at low speeds, at high speeds the air finds its own way in. You might look into a bigger or better radiator as well as a lower temp thermostat for better flow esp if it is a track car. And for the last time do not google use this sites built in search feature and you will have better results. Ben and others have also had luck with hood cutouts in relieving excess temps.

i have a dual core rad and thanx for the advice... ill do that... im also doing a coolant re-route... any feedback on leaving the heatercore in or not?

Like other's have said. The heatercore will not affect your cooling. It affects your comfort in the car and the weight of your car, nothing else. Just remove it already so you don't have to ask about it over and over. This is just a track car right, who needs heat.

I've actually used the heater on more than one occasion to drop coolant temps in a race car. After all, it's a radiator with a fan mounted too it - turn on the fan and crank the heat all the way up and you've got what amounts to a supplemental heat exchanger. Of course I used it on the hottest of days - not exactly the point of this thread. But I wouldn't remove for the loss of a defroster.

Add "flaps" to the shroud (on the engine side) that will blow open at speed but remain closed in traffic. (in it's simplist form, cut some holes & attach inner tube rubber as a flap)
