Help me kill the gremlins(fuel pump issues)

So I was on the way to work the other day and the car started losing power, so I parked the car at a friends house and went to work. When I got back to the car the next day, It started right up and ran smoothly untill I put it in reverse and it promptly died. I decided to check the fuel pump and it sounds like it is turning on, but the car will not move an inch no matter what rpms I dump the clutch at. I was able to get it to go forward a tiny bit, but it is parked right up against a fence, and downhill so I dont know if there was really any load on the motor.

Then I noticed one of the turn signal lights was on when it should not be.
After that I tried revving the car with the turn signal on, and the revs were bouncing up and down with the turn signal, and the fuel pump sounded like it was turning on and off.

so um...

any ideas?

Could probably use a good flushing. Kinda like brake fluid, goes bad after a while.

Short going to the tail lights?

I don't have my manual with me, so I can't tell you which fuse... but if it was me, I'd pull the fuses for the rear tail lights, turn signals, backup lights (they may all be the same fuse) and then try putting it in reverse again.

My hypothesis is you have a short going to a tail light, and it's not blowing the fuse as it should.

Check and clean the grounds under the brake booster and the main strap going from the frame to the motor near there.
