hesitating/Misfire is back!!!*UPDATED*

:vash: :vash: :vash: :vash:

Well after changing:

The coil pack
Water Thermosensor
AFM
Leads
Plugs
02 sensor

The problem came back this morning to my surprise. Last time the plugs and leads solved the problem.

I have had trouble free driving for like 3 weeks. This morning it did it again.
I am gutted.

Any ideaa where to look now?

magnamx-5 02-05-2007 04:48 AM

Operator error?

Bad gas?

Are you blowing oil from the compressor?

tabs604 02-05-2007 05:15 AM

No not to my knowledge!

oil is getting into the exhaust somehow though as I have a small oil leak whcih i have never been able to pinpoint.

magnamx-5 02-05-2007 05:22 AM

well if it pools in there it could ignite spontaniusly maybe a blown turbine seal. my turbo did that when it was pouring oil into my intake and eventualy it would laod up and boom i think thats how i popped my manifold, and even my DP had a rip.

tabs604 02-05-2007 07:12 AM

would a compression test not show this?

Also could the leads possibly break down in 2-3 weeks of use?

AFM brushes

Well the compression test shows the cylinder pressure. If the oil leak is from the turbo then it has nothing to do with the compression of the motor, but the orings and seals in your turbo being bypassed for some reason, be it kinked return etc.

An AFM will read the correct resistance per the workbook on test; but over the life of the AFM(years) the tension on the brushes inside the AFM gets weaker causing a disrupted signal. Zero volts is full load, so it throws extra fuel. Clean the contacts and move the brushes further against the sensing strip to cure this.(Under the black cover)

El' AFM conquistadore! :gay: Olderguy! On a serious note, this tip has helped a lot of people.

On a side note, since you have the emanage, why not do some logged runs with every parameter logged and note at what time you have hesitation to see if anything shows up. Just a thought.

UPDATE:

On the way home from work she was good as gold and there was no missing whatsoever.

I have been doing some searching on the internet and found that magnecor leads have a not so good reputtion. I ran my old ones for 2 years without probs. the new ones have been on for less than 3 weeks and the missing happend this morning.

I have maybe an explanation to this.

I had a compression test done a week ago. It was also wet tested which means a small amount of oil was put into the 4 wells.

could this have broekn own the insulation on my new magnecors so quick?

or do you think the oil has not burned off yet causing the missfire?

THE CAR HAS NOT MISSED SINCE I CHANGED THE LEADS 3 WEEKS AGO.

My afm had a failure which led to the opposite condition, but same result: high voltage-->fuel cut-->lean hesitation.

update:

As I can imagine y'all are probably bored of me rambling on about my hesitation problem.

Anyway a friend wh works in a car audio shop said its an old car and have i checked my grounds.

I said the last time I checked the ground ner the oil dipstack was when I used it for the 4 wire 02 sensor wiring.

As a result he added a thick fuckoff cable from the engine (engine lifting hook) to the chassis (just in front of the power steering reservior.

I dont know if its me being silliy but it made a difference.

And this morning it did not hesitate nor did it hesitate back from work...was allot smoother.

Not I gonna change the ground strap near the dipstick and any otheres I can find.

Anyone know where all the grounds on a 1992 mx5 are?
