High Idle problem!!!

Today I installed the 1.8l injectors on my 92 miata. After I turned on the car my idle was at 2000rpm and just stays there. I also have an rx7 afm dont know if that would make a difference. Any input would help. Have u guys encountered high idles after putting bigger injectors?

PS. My set up:
Greddy turbo kit @ 7psi
2.5" cat back
rx7 afm
fmic
bov
bipes acu @12deg pulling 6deg
1.8 injectors

probably have a vacuum leak around your injectors

Did ya replace the orings / smelling fuel in engine bay ?

miata5 09-23-2007 03:44 PM

well i didn't replace tha O-rings but the car doesnt smell like fuel. I tightened the spring on the RX7 afm and it helped lower my idle to 850rpm buts the engine seems to be running a little rough. The exhaust sounds like its gargling. This helped the idle but when im driving and I put it in neutral the revs stay at 1500rpm and 5sec. later go down to 1000rpm then finally 850rpm. So I dont know if this is normal after installing the 1.8 injectors because the car didn't do this before with the stock injectors. Wat else can I look for?

Come on man, if i started doing this after an injector swap, retrace your steps, has got to be something related to that area.

there are rubber/plastic insulators that go in between the injector body and the intake manifold, they're easy to lose. if you're missing one it will do what you're saying.

too much fuel? With the new rx7 AFM and larger injectors the gargling could because of too much fuel? :dunno:

hey mach929 I didn't loose the O-rings, I just didn't replace them with new ones. I also noticed that when my car idles the vacuum is at 15 where before it was at 20...dont know what that means. When I change the spring settings in the rx7 afm should I reset the ecu or what?

if the vac is different then you might have a leak (if i'm not completely retarded), because the vac is being pulled in somewhere other than the afm, try the connections on the new afm and see if they are sealed because that will caust idle problems. (try putting on the old afm and delete a solution to your problem)

Spray some brake cleaner around the injectors and see if the car revs up....nice quick way to see if you have a small vac leak there.

i bet one of your vacuum lines split. R&R injectors requires some of those lines to be removed. they can get brittle.

Thanks guys for your help. Ima check all vacuum lines tomorrow and spray some of the brake cleaner on the injectors to see for leaks but if none of that works then ima put the stock afm. If I put the stock afm will I have to adjust the spring the same way i did with the rx7 afm?
