Hks vpc users! need some info
 

Hey Guys I need help with hooking up my hks vpc on my na6. I posted over at clubroadster and most of the guys there are pretty much douche bags. I had a few try to help but mostly receieved comments about why I was using "prehistoric managment" I am not down with 15x10 rims on 195's... Sorry I just dont belong there. Anyways, I have seen a few hks vpc setups come up forsale here in the past but I was hoping I could Pm with a few Users so I could get more detail information.

honestly it is a little prehistoric. or rather you probably wont find many people using them at least.

maybe some background on your setup could help us out though. and by help I mean get that VPC sold and a megasquirt bought!

I used to run one on my DSM way back in the day. I have lots of old pics/install info for that if it would be helpful to you at all. Its not a bad unit all in all.

candela I appreciate the offer but I am not too sure that it would offer me any benefit on my miata. I have a complete harness and all the sensors with my Vpc, But I have heard of needing to jump the fuel pump off of my maf harness and some other things I need to do to make it perform properly.

I even have the instructions but sadly they are in japanese. I guess I may just need to fond someone to translate it into english.

My car is Na and I have no need for mspnp. I am just trying to ditch a restrictive maf. So if anyone else has any info for me I would appreciate it.

Like I mentioned on CR.net, it is a bit prehistoric. Being NA is not a good enough reason for not needing megasquirt. Aside from the benefit of removing the MAF, the MS will allow you to tune the car, where as the VPC is pretty much useless at that. Tom (bgracer) did a quick log/analyze on his built NA and gained something like 9 rwhp. Sure that may not apply to you, but you can at least see ROI for your money. Basically you are paying 275 (what I sold mine for) for a MAF delete when you can do so much more for 300-400 (MSq).

getting rid of the MAF on a non-turbo miata is not going to buy you much of anything.

The VPC is a little limited in what it can do, you might want to couple it with another fuel computer such as a S-AFC to fine tune. I've personally made 850 to the wheels with that set-up on a 2j with perfect drive-ability, so the set-up does have potential. But if you want to extract all that your set-up has to give another route would be the way to go. Depends on your skill set and the time/money you are willing to put into it.

You will need to get a switched signal to the fuel pump somehow, either at the MAF plug or under the dash. You might want to connect the IAT off of a little piece of tubing instead of tapping it direct into the manifold to avoid starting problems from heat soak.

I just dont have Mspnp money. I have the Vpc and I am not looking to make ground breaking numbers. I am really looking to free up some throttle response and to have the ability of doing a custom intake to try and avoid heat soak as much as possible. I think for what I am looking to do the vpc can handle. I mean granted I would love to have Mspnp But thats just not realistic for what I am looking for. Its certainly worth it, but I just am not shopping for something like that, perhaps at some point down the road that might tickle my fancy but for the moment I think the vpc will cover it enough. Thanks for the responses, but not to get too far off topic but I still could use some more direct info about the vpc.
