Hood Scoop/Duct

With my recent turbo install on my 90 miata, I'm thinking I would like to put something in my hood to allow some air flow over the turbo. I've done a bunch of searching for hood scoops, air ducts, heat extractors, etc, and have not been able to find what I'm looking for. I want a scoop that sinks into the hood, not one that simply sits on top. This style was used on the Isuzu Impulse RS (sold in the early 90's). Here's a pic:

My turbo is a top mount, and I figure with one of those pointing at it, plus having the hood raised near the cowl, it would assist greatly in evacuating hot air from that section. If anyone could point me to a place that sells somethings like that, or what it's even called, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Holy crud, I just found the name of them! I stumbled across a recent online article about this certain car, and they mentioned it had a NACA duct. I did a search and low and behold, there they are! Hope this helps others looking for these things.

I was just gonna say search NACA duct and you'll find what your looking for.

FYI, having the back of the hood raised does not allow heat evacuation. Your actually sucking air in.

woot, I just had the random idea to search for NACA ducts on ebay and found these and these.
Bought two of the medium ones for my triangle windows, cool air FTW! Best I've found is $25 a piece here.

dustin, search for a thread started by Rob about Mini Cooper's hood scoop.

Maybe it's deleted? I did an advanced search and looked at all posts by Rob, but nothing in there about scoops. What type of setup was it?

Or, you can click this link and get the figures for a custom NACA duct. It will calculate the profile, and depth.

The idea is to provide better exits for air under the hood. That also increases flow through the exchangers, providing an overall benefit. Adding incoming air to the other side of the exchangers decreases air flow through them = bad. Here's my mini cooper extractor thread.

Thats the premise I did my vent after. Air/heat removal... not addition.

Wouldn't a hood scoop like this be really bad for the turbo and manifold in the rain? You would basically be throwing cold water onto something really hot.

He posted the info in your thread.

The location for that one pictured is certainly not ideal for our particular application. The location of that one would put the hole right above our valve cover. Rain = water in spark plugs. The ideal location is behind the radiator, in front of the valve cover. I'm currently rocking the Erebuni, which is about 1-2" too far back and exposes the cover. Gotta be careful in the rain. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to make another hood :)

Awesome thread. I ordered my mini cooper vent a few hours ago!

I was watching that one; just was not sure how close the color was to fade classic red. I plan to install one in the hood, and one in the bumper.

I walked a local junk yard the other day thinking DIY scoop in the nose. Cooper scooper is a good way to go. I've always had this in mind though.

I walked by an old Mazda 626 and saw the front facia. Unclipped it and paid the $5 for it. Trying to whittle away at it to see if it could work without looking ghetto.

Whacked in 1/2.

Just trying to taper the edges so they meet nicely with the nose. Also have to cut relief in the back so it will bend properly. We'll see if it gets good enough that I will actually cut the nose for it.
