How do you spot fake Takata harness?
Can anybody help enlighten me, please, about to dump $440 for 2 used sets.
Thanks |
with that money you can get some Willans which are used on many things more likely to kill you
|
Yeah, true but I like green on black.
|
Color over safety any day!
The fake ones will say "fake" on the back. |
Me too, prefer safty over color anyday but isn't Takata one of the best harness brand out there? I mean if I can get 2 sets for 1/2 the price of new ones then, why not!
|
Why not? Because they're fake.
Are Takatas FIA approved? Look for the homologation tags. |

If you're just going to have a break down if you don't get green, get black Willans and green pads.
|
Real ones are FIA approved but it's not my main concern because I'm not looking forward to compete in any event. It's just in case that if I need to have it for track fun and like I said green would look nice with the seats I have.
|
Good to know that you value looks over safety. Be sure to tell any instructor who offers to ride with you that your harnesses are eBay fakes with no certifications at all - I'm sure they'll be chomping at the bit to ride in your car.
They're goddamn seatbelts, dude. You don't buy cheap, fake seatbelts. Get a set of used SFI-rated G-Force camlocks and shelve the JDM "BUT I LIKE GREEN" crap. |
Can anybody help with the info I need?
|
Whoops. Sorry, man. I mis-read what you wrote as you not caring about the FIA ratings, only about the harness color.
You should be able to spot fakes by their price and lack of homologation tags. Let me snap photos of my Willans and Schroth tags. |
You have the info you need... you're just not listening. There's NO definitive way to tell if they're fakes or not. Anyone going to the trouble to make fake belts could just as easily make fake FIA/SFI tags too.
Bottom Line... FUCK THE COLOR BUY GOOD BELTS FROM A KNOWN DEALER IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE. It's really that simple. P.S. anyone who pays $440 for USED belts need to send me money because they have wayyyyy too much. |

Damn, don't mean to to tick anyone off with the JDM "I like GEEEN" stuff, just looking for the info I need, that's all Sav.
|
To tell you the truth, we don't care much. Because if you are hell bent on form>function then we may not have to read your posts much longer. Not trying to be mean, just putting things in perspective...

By the way. Wesco, HPI, Corbeau and I'm sure many others produce harnesses in Green. All can be had for under $200 a set brand new. Some well under. New harnesses will have new fia certs. Note that some clubs for track days will require you to have current certification. The used takatas, if they are genuine, are likely for sale as they are out of date.

Kill yourself, ------.

I'd like to be ballin' with harnesses made from gold thread and covered with diamonds! Nothing stronger than diamonds! |

What a ------.
Seriously though, we all know ultimate safety is in ejection seats. |

...Oh, there's an audience. There's a reason that 50% of this forum quotes me in their sig. Maybe one day if your balls drop and you produce test for the first time in your life you'll understand. |

Crickets chirping!
|
what hustler is trying to say is that somebody could really use your car. They would make it their bitch, tearing out dashes and gauge hoods without even unbolting the fasteners just to get to electric motors and to find rubber grommets in the fire wall. After that they would open the hood past its recommended distance bending the hinges and breaking your plastic in front of the windshield. They would then move the Frankenstein bolts a hole back and open your trunk lid just to scratch two little paint chips into your trunk lid.

Good lord!, people.
F' Takata then, I'm using stocks. |
Wait I thought he did care if they were fake? Isnt that why he made the thread in the first place? To not get fake ones? Hell I'd like Takatas too! They are good belts.
|
Are they better than any of the domestic belts used in just about all pro-racing here in USA land?

i think what everyone is saying whitena is that a) you should have done a little research before posting and b) why would you pay for harnesses that are used and probly out of date when you can buy new ones in any color you want that are half the price.
|
OP...
I have spent two seasons looking for "nice" harnesses on the cheap. If I could go back I would have just sacked up and gotten (2) brand fucking new G-Force latch locks for $140....super cheap and easy. G-Force*Pro 5PT JR Latch & Link 2" Harness*-*SafeRacer Or, if you have a little more to spend, go for 6-points, 3" webbing and cam-lock. 5 Pt Junior Racer Camlock Individual Harness Set I've seen (and debated buying) single used Takacraps for the price of a pair of new top of the line G-Forces. Buying new means you're safer...regardless. You never know if someone spilled coke on a harness (seriously affecting integrity of fibers) and just cleaned it up well. You also get current SFI ratings for when you go on track. AND YOU GET 2 OF THEM! Fuck color matching...go for a god damn matching PAIR of harness you can trust your life with. |

Buying a used harness from a shady vendor on ebay has to be the best idea I've heard in my life. We know you'll never be on the track though, so I guess its not that big of a deal. Hopefully you break your face on the steering wheel.
|
Buying a used harness from Sav is ok though.. he's not shady.
Plus they weren't green... ewww :skid: |
