How does the GT3267 spool on a 1.8?
Like the title says,
How does a GT3267 spool on a 1.8 Miata? I think some here are using this but I do not remember who. I'm looking for "I get xxx psi at xxxrpm" kinda response here please. Thanks. And if anyone can point me to some place that explains how to read/choose turbine (NOT COMPRESSOR) maps, that'd be great too. |

the closest thing we can do is point you to garrett's half-assed turbine maps. there might be an autospeed article or some posts on miata.net from jason cuadra on it.... |

I seem to recall Andy using that turbo on his 1.9L and getting 16psi @ 3800-4K RPM.

I figured I'd try to match up exhaust sides of turbos that I know other people have used with success on 1.8 engines. Two of the GT1548's would match up very closely to the GT2560 that I've used on my 1.6 (old GT28R, spools instantly on my 2.2 subaru daily driver). Seems a little tiny for peak hp...FM gets what, 260ish with these?? I want around 280. Two of the GT2052's would match up with the larger .86 A/R GT2860RS (disco potato) and to the GT3267. Having the capability to go with big HP numbers isn't that appealing because eventually I would do it . I thought Andy was running the 3071 or maybe the 3076...
fwiw, my hotside is the NS111 / potato turbine section with the .64 A/R housing. If the compressor was a little smaller, it'd probably spool like mad. |

I was lying in bed this morning thinking about this and remembered you had a larger turbo that seemed to spool well and was a good match. I don't know why I didn't think of asking you before...it was late last night. And here you are posting your info, thanks. I'll have to do more research on the disco potato / .64 hotside. What is your turbo (hotside/cold side)? Is it the straight-up disco potato? Garrett seems to have a dozen turbos all around that size with minor tweaks. |

A little history since people ask... when I got this turbo, it was one of two available "GT" 25 sized turbos with all new aero designs on both sides and the CHRA was all-new with the new style ball bearings. That was like 5 years ago. Garrett since updated GT to mean any old ball bearing turbo, not just the new ones. I think it even pre-dates the potato, but I forget. I wanted the new technology. Look at the compressor housings, it is pretty apparent that something changed. http://www.turbofast.com.au/GTseries.html (705330-0001) The compressor was big but not ridiculous compared to a TO4E-XX. It's actually only .05" bigger in diameter. Similar in size to a TO4E-46 which was a pretty popular upgrade for the 3SGTE in the Alltrac and Turbo MR2. A shop would drop that onto your CT26 and you'd go like mad. I think the reason Garrett says "not recommended" is that it operates pretty close to the surge line. It's probably a little too much compressor for the smaller turbine, but since the NS111 GT25 hotside is a little bigger than a T25, it worked out OK for me. Believe me it was hard to shell out that kind of money for a turbo nobody'd ever tried. :) Matt |

This might help you decide whats best , we use this for all our turbo decisions .
Turbo compressor calculator I already put in the bore and stroke . I have It setup for 8psi as of now . With a 90% VE being that you are turbo at the MIN . And 3000 rpm . Just pull up the GT32 in the maps and you will see you will be right at the surge line . Just need to change MANIFOLD PRESSURE and RPM then pick a turbo map and you can see when it will start to spool and when you run out of room for more boost . Best thing is to set a HP goal . Punch in altitude , SFC and target AFR ...and then base your choices around that and pick the best setup for your goal with the best spool . Hope this helps :) |

it came with the .86 but I managed to talk ATP into doing a straight swap one day. I drove it down there and they handed me a .64. Never ran the .86--can't imagine it'd be good under 2.4 L
When/how does your car spool? You were running 8psi at dyno day? When do you start to spool (make ~1psi) and when are you making 8psi? Thanks again Matt. |
