Default How to install a Bosch 044 fuel pump in tank or intank

GLOR?Y ******* HALLELUJAH

I assume that if you are reading this thread you have either linked off my build thread or are embarking on a journey of self discovery and sensual exploriation. Or you just have a need to make over 400ish hp.

So I had a walboro 255hp and it couldn't make over 390hp with my setup. Enter the Bosch 044. I decided to mount this mama in tank because I think it to be cheezy to do otherwise and mount it outside of the tank. Yes, there's really nothing wrong with mounting outside of the tank but damnit, God intended fuel pumps to be mounted inside the tank, sitting underwater(underfuel) within the fuel that they pump.

So this is how you do it.

So the first thing you gotta do is to buy all the goodies.

I got all of my **** from jayracing.com

I would link the **** but probably all the links will die within a year so I will just describe them.

THE REAL bosch 044 pump which was $189 *** note that jayracing.com sells some "pro series carbon fiber" bosch 044 but I don't trust that **** because it is some chinese bullshit. I eat chinese; I do not pump fuel with it. FWIW they also sell mad tyte knockoff 044s with supersweet vinyl wrap or some bullshit. Do you really trust that for your power?

"fuel pump pre-filter sock". This is some little filter that attaches to the pump inlet. Pegasus racing sells it too. Give them a call and ask for these two parts: FS 1HDW52 which is the adapter that screws into the pump and FS FSHP is the sock. Despite Jayracing being a kinda ricer oriented business and pegasus being legit and awesome, the jayracing adapter/sock combo is actually better since the adapter is aluminum not plastic.

"Bosch 044 high flow check valve" If you have an AFPR, this is arguably unneeded. The AFPR shoudl perform all the checkyoself that you need. I bought it and used it because I am a dumbass and jayracing said it was a good idea. Are you really seriously taking advice from me?/ lololollol

"-6an to 5/16th adapter" This connectos to either the check valve outlet or the 044 outlet with the correct diameter for the stock piping

You will also need some shitty hose clamps. Maybe 2.5-3.5" in diameter. No nice T bolt hose clamps. Shitty worm gear bullshit. All metal.!

This is what the pile of goodies looks like, minus the clamps:

In all seriosumess, this has done me well for many years. It was, as I said up top, for me, good to 390hp. YMMV your mileage may vary depending on your fuel pressure, use of AFPR, injectoers, number of injectors ETC. BTW real men work on cars in flip flops

This is a pic of the in tank in-tank 01+ regulator. The pump flows the man juice out of the tank into a tee. The tee goes to the filter which goes to the rail. The other part of the tee goes back into the tank, to this regulator. This apparently puts out 60psi. If I can find the right hoses, I will measure this **** myself.

Look at that cute little wally inside it's onyx sock! The bosch 044, a real man's pump, is obviously on the left. I think that is the stock 01+ NB sock on the wally. That is the aforementioned sock on the 044.

OK to assemble the check valve and 5/16th adapter you need to take off the banjo fitting on the end of the pump. It seriously took over 100ftlbs of torque to break it loose. This is the thing I am talking about

Look at this thing! IT'S ******* HUGE! It is bigger than my hands and my hands are so big I can barely wrap them around my. anyways Note the check valve installed. And the little AN to 5/16th adapter

Take heed for you do indeed need a ******* fuel filter! This is not like some **** that ricers get away with like running with out an air filter. This **** will clog your precious injector holes and your motor will explode. Game ove rman game over. Seriously, WTF??? What ******* gas station is including aqurium gravel in their go juice?

OK so put the fuckign check valve and AN to 5/16th adapter on the end of your pump. You will have to remove the neck that is on there. Don't worry, if I figured out what the **** that meant, you can too. Seriously, I am the dumbest mechanic on the planet.

So put that **** on. "That ****" means the uhhh check valve and 5/16th adapter.

NOW THE FUN ?BEGINS.

Hack the ******* hell out of that stock fuel line feed. Hack it so bad that your gigantick **** 055 I mean 044 will fit with sexual ease. I hacked mine off at the angle with some cut-off pliers. They pinched the line closed, so I bent that **** open with some more pliers. Some people do this **** perfectly, some people just get it done. I got it done. And it worked HAHAHAHA

THEN worm gear the ******* pump to the stalk! You will have to bend that stupid "tray" that your stock or wally pump sat in out of they way. I used my robo wrench becuase it just jumps straight to ******* **** up. Note that this is a real man's how-to, not some let's do **** perfect that nobody will ever see or notice how-to. Anways, make that fuckign pump fit on there.

------------************NOTE make sure that the fuel float can swing freely!!! You may be a man but you will feel like a sucker when you run out of gas and AAA has to save your dumb ***! For me, this meant that I had to twist the pump so the plus/minus terminals did not impede (what a big word) the motion of the float arm.

OK got it? So bolt that **** on and that's about it. I think the blue wire is "hot" and the black wire is "ground". No gurantees.

Witness the glory.

So the finale:

Put that **** back in the tanke!

If you're not on fire now, You have done things wrong. I recommend

a) do this while the tank is full of gas
b) while the car is runing
c) while taserign yourself in the face
d) definetly NOT after disconnecting the pump connector and letting the car run until it dies and then disconnecting the negative battery temrinal.

If that still doesn't work for you then test out your pump and

a) plug all your **** up including battery, fuel lines, battery, and fuel pump connector
b) key on the car but don't start it
c) pop your hood and walk to the engine bay
d) massage your turbo because it needs to be warmed up for the love
e) disconnect your fuel line and If gas sprays all over your face then you know your pump is working properly.

f. kill yourself

My fuel map was all sorts of fucked up after this.

For a quikc start, if you are converting from a pissant wally 255hp I recommend just selecting your entire fuel tabel (regardless of EMS) and multiplying by .85

I multiplied by .85 and my **** started right up! I then tuned for 3 hours like an obsessed ************...

Anywaysm if you have questions, ask them now. This pump is only eclipsed by the golden, shining, A1000. But seirously, I think zero miatas have ever had a need to run that. Then again, so have few miatas have had a need ARGH bad grammer had a need to run a 044..

Last Lastest thign.

THE 044 IS ******* LOUGD OMG OMG OMG IT IS SO ******* LOUD. IT IS LIKE TEN TIMES LOUDER THAT LITTL OL WALLY. **** IT IS LOUD. IF YOU LIKE TO SUCK DICKS (NOT THA THAT IS A BAD THING) THEN DO NOT GET THIS BECAUSE YOU SUCK. i can hear it like 20 feet away from the car. GET THIS. THE END

This is nearly unreadable.

Wally=Walbro, correct? This is the first time a legitimate DIY write up has come very close to crossing over to being racist. Negro sock? I may have to change that.

Congratulations on finally doing something correctly.

Doesnt the 190hp support higher fuel pressure than the 255hp?

That "aquarium gravel" is pretty amazing. I wonder what the bottom of your gas tank looks like/has in it.
